Power Window Motors

I have a problem I hope you guys can help me with. I have a original car with very low mileage. The car has barely even been used. I have only driven it about 15 times and I noticed at about the 10th time the window motors appear to be losing power. They are getting harder and harder to get them to operate. I thought at first is was the fact that my garage gets hot and the motors were just tripping. However it seems to only be getting worse. They trip then reset then run for awhile then trip again. I have an issue thinking that the motors went bad because they have hardly been used. Is there a relay or other device I might look at to repair prior to replacing the motors. BTW 2002 Camaro Z28 with 8000 miles on it.

Re: Power Window Motors

The power window motors are not reliable. Might be worth looking at the window tracks to make sure they are not gummed up, and checking the switches to see if they are reducing voltage to the motors.

Shoebox has prepared a very good guide to diagnosing and replacement of the motors:

What is your opinion on aftermarket motors. I have found several and even ones that GM claims are GM products but they all look the same.

I have had good luck with the Doorman replacements (I did the motor and regulator). They are a bit of a pain to replace, but not the worst thing I have ever done. I suggest having an extra body to help hold the window if you decide to do the regulator with the motor.
