Question Passenger Window

My passenger side window rolls down fine, but when I go to put it back up it goes like half way and then stops and I have to wait like a minute or so at a time for it to go up like a quarter inch from there on out. Even if the window is down all day with the car off and I start the car the window goes up like 3/4 and then starts doin the same shyt.

Im not sure if it is the motor or the switch. My local dealer is a scumbag and I really dont like going over there if I dont have to.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanx,
Vinny

My driver's side window was starting to do that a few months ago.

...............it now has a new motor and works 100%.

Unfortunately, the power window motors is one area that GM really cheaped out on with these cars.

Window motor.

My driver's side window is doing that now.

I really don't think GM took the "cheap route" with the window motors...the windows are just really big/heavy (big doors=big windows) and that in turn puts more "stress" on the motors. I dunno about you guys but I roll down/up both windows damn near every single day so they've had a lot of use over these two years. I'm sure it's a lot more than most people would have in their two y/o Accord that use the A/C all the time. JMO

I know what you're saying Aaron, but I disagree with you. I had an '81 Z28 with power windows, and the motors were the originals AFAIK (they looked just as old as the car, and the rivets did not appear to be non-factory). I had that car from March '99 to August '00, and the windows worked perfect that whole time.

My 2002 Z28, however, has already had a window motor replaced, and it began showing signs of failure after less than 1 year old. It was getting really bad just before Christmas though, which was about ~18 months after I bought the car.

I'm sorry, but if the power windows in an '81 can still work almost 20 years later (in a hard-top car with no air conditioning) then there is no excuse for the motor(s) crapping out of a 2002 when they're barely even 1 year old, and don't get used as often because the car has air-conditioning!

It's such a common problem, and as much as I'm loyal to GM, I whole-heartedly believe they're producing a lot of "cheap" stuff nowadays.

My 99 SS was doing the same thing but with the left window. I replaced the motor with a SIEMENS unit from Autozone that has a lifetime warranty by the way, for $70.00. These are the instructions I used and it was easy except for getting the small nuts started onto the little bolts that come with the new motor.

I recently had both motors replaced on my '99 SS by the dealer.

The passenger window was stopping intermittently, and when I took it in for service, the tech. suggested replacing both. He even came out an admitted that the motors aren't the best

My cousins 00 trans am has the same problem, up and down on his drivers side. Perhaps moisture gets into these motors or something? *Shrug*

Unfortunately, F-Body power window motors are quite notorious for failing...

Both of my motors are gonna crap out anytime. They used to go real slow, now they've gone back to normal, but I'm expecting them to go soon.

Wow, the files on that server were not functioning for the longest. I created a new site ages ago. I did not know it started working again-thought it was still dead.

I have made redirects to my current site at shbox.com.

Thanx for all the feedback. plan is to tackle the project this weekend. However where do you guys recommend getting the motor dealer or aftermarket?

Local dealer wants $156 for motor, another wants $132, aftermarket is like $50.

Some people say always go oem, some paople say its all gonna break again anyway, what do you guys say?

Get the AutoZone motor...it has a lifetime warranty, it's cheaper, and its the same motor. I haven't had any problems since I did mine. Make sure you lube the tracks well and trim the rubber like I said that will help decrease the resistence.
