Dynaspark any good?

I am having a problem with my car and have changed every ignition part. But I am using a autozone opti. I have had a couple autozone opti's be completely bad on first start up. I think this one is just going bad. I want to buy a good opti that I know is good; and not have to think the opti is no good? I know many will recommend gm original, but I have a problem with stock rotors exploding over 6200rpms. Now I am running a autozone opti with a msd cap and rotor; the rotor is holding up fine but I think the opti is junk. I have also read a post about autozone opti's being junk. I am looking into the dynaspark because I see it is being used on AI's 9.55 second TA; if it holds fine on that car it should be more than good for my car. What do you guys with Dynaspark's think of them?

They are very nice pieces.

When I bought mine it was the only sealed/vented Gen I opti, so it was a no-brainer.

But for years now you can get an MSD that gives you the same upgrades and more for 2/3 the price.

Also, from what I have seen posted online about poor customer service with the new Dynaspark company, and the fact that they have no address or phone number on their website, I would not buy anything from them.

Is there any advantage in having the adjustable timing with the MSD unit.

No use for the adjustable timing, unless you want to advance or retard the cam. You adjust the timing in the PCM, not with an unmarked, uncalibrated, hit-or-miss screw on the MSD Opti.

I've been using the 'bread and butter' Opti from Jegs in my '96. It's been in there since 7/2008 and has been perfect.

I know the optical sensor on this unit is good, but will the rotor stay together above 6200rpms?

I had a Dynaspark opti. Very expensive. About 600 dollar range. It was for a 97ss. It did not fit. I had to machine the alum base so it would engage the front cover and cam pin. The opti section metal seal also did not fit well and was not keyed. There was green corrosion on the rotor. The rotor was a stock rotor with one rivet. It worked OK for about 1 year. Then I had a encoder failure and there was no signal to the PCM. They did not want to fix it, so I went to a Summit opti which lasted for 1+ year. Yes I modified the rotor with 2 rivets. The opti internal seal was better (like the gm stock). The Summit opti developed a intermittant encoder signal loss. I an now installing an all-ignition.com opti. I have also dissected it and inspected the internals. They look very similar to the MSD unit. The encoder, I do not know. I will attempt to mfg/ engineer my own optical encoder. B.

I contacted dynaspark and they said the back order list is a mi long. I don't think I will be getting the dynaspark, now my choices are, summit, Jegs, GM performance or MSD.

I have my rev limiter set to 7K but I seldom have to rev it above 6,500. I always take my opti's apart before installing them and loctite the tiny screws in the Rotor, then silicone seal the perimeter of the cap.

I narrowed it down to these two http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MSD-8...Q5fAccessories or http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-Pe...Q5fAccessories

hmm

dont pay that much for the gm opti. find one listed by the partsladi. theirs are 250 and genuine gm.. both are good units, but the msd cap has an extra bolt just in case your weep hole starts to leak..
