Cloyes Crank Gear Is Thicher Than The Stocker
Cloyes Crank Gear Is Thicher Than The Stocker
I ordered a cloyes double roller timing chain and after I got the stock crank gear off I measured the difference between them and the cloyes gear is about 1/10"? thicker than the stock gear.
Will this be ok or should I take it to a machine shop and have it turned down a little bit?
That measurement might not be right, I did it a couple days ago but I'll go out and check it again to be sure.

I actually went out today and the back of the cloyes gear is inset so it doesn't put the pulley out of alignment, I didn't notice that before when I measured it.
I can't measure it since my caliper won't fit inside of the hole, but I think it will be ok, but if not I'll find out when I get the car running.
Anyone else have any experience with this? Does it space the pulley out at all? Let me know if you can

I understand from what I have read that going to a double roller requires slight clearancing of the timing cover. Might search that. I doubt if turning the sprocket would help unless that is the widest part, but I think the chain is wider.
I haven't gotten around to the cover yet, but I will as soon as my motor comes back from the machine shop and I start the reassembly. I'll take some pics of what I had to do since I haven't found any pics of it yet.
