error code 33 map high

does this mean my map sensor is shot or is there a possibility that a vaccuum leak is present.

Re: error code 33 map high

Depends.... the code sets when MAP at idle excedes 68kPa. With a stock cam, you would need a huge vacuum leak to have MAP increase from the typical 30-35kPa at idle to 68kPa. However, with an agressive cam, you can see that high a MAP reading = low vacuum. You don't mention if you have any mods, cam, etc., so its hard to answer accurately. Adding a "signature" with info about your mods will help people give you a more accurate answer.

Could also result from incorrectly adjusted valves, excessive misfires, etc.

Could also be a loose connector. The MAP sensor connectors dry out and crumble, giving erratic MAP readings, which can trigger the code. I'd check that first.

Unexpected dying of the engine can also trigger a map code in some cases. The MAP sensor is not the cause, but the MAP code is a result of other factors. In that case, clear the code and see if it returns.
