N2O Cam or just N/A Steet Cam
N2O Cam or just N/A Steet Cam
It seems obvious but I thought I'd ask. If the car just gets an occasional burst of N2O, but mostly sees freeway traffic... is it worth it to install an N2O cam? It is a daily driver and yes it rips on the weekends, but I don't want it surging in traffic.
I run nitrous but I build my car to run motor first then nitrous second. Any motor will run well on nitrous
I guaruntee it but if you plan on spraying a great big shot like 250-300 then a N2o cam may be in order. Despite what some people say n20 doesn't need the same cam as Forced induction. JMO. Later Clint

Thanks! Yes, it will be mostly street driven. I was planning on building the forged bottom end then going with a 200 shot. So, it would be a 383 with about 390 RWHP Smogable + 200 N2O bursts occasionally.
personally, I'm going with a very wide LSA for my cam. I am not doing this just for the nitrous, but it should work great then. I want plenty of duration but a smooth idle and very good vacuum. I also want to put a blower on the car later and this would be great for that

i want to see you put that much spray through you OR sean's car!
dual stage 250 shots will but a severe shock on your drivetrain. You'd have to get Viper Components for the T56 Manual 6 Speed and either a Ford 9-Inch or beefy 12-bolt.

A wide LSA is not nearly as beneficial with N2O as with a blower. What you primarily want for N2O is a bigger "split" between the exhaust and intake sides. This can be worth a fair amount of hp with a large nitrous shot. In one of his books David Vizard reported on some tests with different cams and N2O and found gains of up to ~20% with a bigger exhaust lobe.
But as has been posted, a good NA cam will also do fine with N2O. For as much as most people with N2O use it, they are best off optimizing NA performance, IMHO. In a case like mine, where I run both, it's lucky that a centrifugal blower and nitrous are so complementary and that a great blower cam is also good for N2O.
