N/A tune with 100 shot?

I have a mostly stock bottom end with the exception of forged pistons. Ignition is a MSD 6A w/ Taylor wires, MSD coil and NGK TR6 plugs. My N2O kit is NX with a FPSS and MSD window switch. I'm thinking of switching from a 75 to a 100 shot. Should I get retuned?

Thanks,
Matt

Do you have the ability to retard your timing besides for sending it out to get tuned by someone?

I was under the impression that you could go up to 150 shot without HAVING to retard the timing. I sprayed 100 hp shots on my car without timing adjustments and didn't have a problem.

I have never heard of 150 shot with out pulling timing. Some people pull 2 degrees for a 100 shot but its not necesary. For every 25 degrees past a 100 yuo should pull 2 degrees of timing. Im a newb when it comes to n2o but this is what i have been told many times.

No, I don't. I don't have the $$ for a digital 6 either. I've asked people at my local cruise spot and some say I'll be fine, but others say I should get it tuned before I up the shot.

You don't need a whole digital 6 ignition to pull timing, just a retard box wired in(they're pretty cheap)......And even though there are some nitrous manufactures that jet "some" of their kits "super" fat so people can try to get away without retarding their timing, it dosen't make it the right way, or the safest way to do things.....some manufactures simply offer "bolt on" nitrous kit's so they can sell kits to a crowd of guys that want to run nitrous as cheap as possible IE: no timing retard, no colder plugs, Ect.....IME, these kits are the ones that give nitrous such a bad rep after things go wrong......pulling 2 degree's per 50 HP nitrous increase is the recomended rule of thumb for a reason....(so it's safe)I would at least get your PCM retuned for the 150 shot if you don't go for a retard box

However if you do get your PCM tuned for the bigger shot then i belive your car will run like a dog off the bottle as it will be retarding the timing even when your not spraying. I went with the mallory ignition for my set-up and it does everything that i need to do, window switch and retarding the timing. Like mentioned before you will want to pull 2 deg for every 50 hp you spray, some people pull more then that but generally thats what you do. Im pulling 6 deg on my 125 shot and its working well for me.

I was also told that the timing can be retarded using a switch and some tuning on the computer. A tuner told me one time that he could eliminate my Digital 6 box and have the timing retard with the flip of a switch. I don't know how, he just said it was possible.

You will be fine on the 100shot w/o pulling timing. I have run 150HP on straight pumpgas and no timing pulled but I know more about n2o than most. Your other alternative would be adding a couple gallons of C12 to a 1/4 tank 93 so if you up the shot to 150 and you will be fine b/c the higher octane will take care of detonation. Later Clint

Superchips has a nice little gadget for FORD vehicles where you can switch between tunes on file with the vehicle depending on the application. I have a friend with a Lightning that has a tune for Valet, Street, and Strip w/ Spray. When I asked him about it as far as he knew it was not availible for GM Cars.

I've been told the exact same thing by experienced racers at my local criuse spot. I'll probably try it this weekend and see what happens....
