How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
Ok, I found more of that white stuff... It is all the way up to my solonoid, but not past it. It is not on the OUT port of the solonoid, nor is it in my lines up to my fogger nozzle, nor in the fogger nozzle, nor in the jets.
So I figure this was moisture in there, and possibly something else and reacted and created this "stuff".
So now I want to take apart my NX solonoid to make sure none got inside it and to clean it thouroughly...
I have the coil off the top, and see the two small holes/dimples and I assume I am supposed to turn them to remove the plunger?
Is there a special tool? I tried using a punch and tapping it to remove it, but no luck.
Thanks for any and all help...
I guess I'm not going to make it to the track tomorrow...

Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
if they are NX solenoids they have a life time warranty just call NX or pm/email nxricky. he can probably tell you what that white crap is, too.
good luck and post up is you find out what that crap is I'm courious.

Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
use a double nut to open the solenoid. find a gorrilla strong friend to hold the base but DO NOT put in a vise. The white stuff is most likely trash out of the bulk gas bottle your fill center uses. A inline nitrous filter is cheap insurance. Flush all your lines and fittings with carb cleaner and compressed air. hope this helps.
Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
I talked to a local NX guy and he told me to CAREFULLY place the solenoid into a vise and use vise grip pliers to remove the shaft.
I got it out and cleaned off the solonoids and reassembled them. They work, etc.
I also had rusty water in both my nitrous solenoid and my purge solenoid...
As for the gas... I fill my own bottles with Nytrous + and use my NOS refill station. I have an NOS inline -6an filter (same exact filter as on my car) and I need to recheck it, but it usually has a dry powder in there from the contaminents.
I get my bottles from Air Gas which was bought out by Puriten Benit. My Nytrous + has 50 PPM of sulphar dioxide as well.
I will be buying the correct tool to dissasemble the NX noids... Spanner wrench of some sort. I'll contact NX to see if they sell it.
I will be contacting NX on Monday with pics of the "white stuff" and see what it might be.
I did find out that my -6an nitrous line had a leak right at the fitting into the nitrous filter. Poorly assembled NOS line. There were some strands of the steel braiding sticking OUT of the brass fitting, and it was leaking there.
I also noticed a spot 6" long about 8" from the fitting on my bottle was icing over (and I have split loom around my braided line and it was iced over too), but none of the rest of the line was iced over. Never seen anything like that either.

Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
The whole reason behind the double nut and no vise is to prevent bending the shaft. Supposedly there is not much tolerance for runout and if you tweek things you can have a solenoid stick and refuse to shut off at the most inoportune times. I got this from a Edelbrock manual as it was the only kit I've seen that deemed the end user capable of a self inspection. I can assure you it works well and does not require a brand specific tool.
It didn't quite seem like rusty water but I did have something that seemed like WD40 on my nitrous solonoids seals once. N.O.S tech told me it was reversion from my intake manifold and was good reason for routine inspection.
I'm not sure what exact filter your running but mine is just a super fine mesh screen designed to trap particulate matter( not sure about water). Pumping generates heat and may have caused condensation in your bottle, either from the distributor or from your fill station setup. The place I get my bottles filled has for lack of a better discription a (water trap) like you would find on a compressed air system used for painting. This is just an idea and may be worth looking into if you can't find anything else wrong.
The freezing is caused by a leak in your line. Nitrous boils at room temp and will cause freezing in the same way it lowers intake temps in your hot engine.
I'm subscribed to this thread but could you please send me some pics so I can recognize this if I ever run across it? captaindbol@yahoo.com
Hope everything works out for the best

Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
Yeah, I didn't like using a vise and vise grips, but I was trying to make a race and didn't have any nuts to double nut it. And on the base of the shaft that threads into the solenoid body, there are two small dimples, such that a spanner wrench would fit into. I would like to add one of those to my tool collection.
I did sorta damage the tower on my purge solonoid and it would open (with power) but wouldn't close. So I took it apart and sorta "reemed" it out with a drillbit and all is good now. It is my purge so if anything I will just loose a full bottle of nitrous, or until I can get out of the car and shut the bottle off. The spring inside the purge solenoid was VERY weak as well.
So if the line is freezing over there is a leak AT that location? That makes sense to me, but I can't imagine that this line was in THAT bad a shape. Gotta contact NOS and see if I can return it... Or see if Summit will take it back without a reciept.
I didn't take any pics of the "rusty water"... sorry.

Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
If the line has frost on it then liquid nitrous is coming out somewhere near there. It's the same as a leaky fitting just more pronounced because it is closer to the bottle. Call summit and they should take care of it if its not too old, does'nt have plier marks, etc.
Re: How to disassemble an NX solonoid???
Well I bought this nitrous line about a year ago... give or take.
The line looks brand new... No marks at all on it. Just poorly assembled with the steel threads sticking out of the brass part of the fitting on the OTHER end of where the line was getting frosty. So both ends had leaks.
I've gotta call Summit and ask if they keep records of what you have purchased, because I can't find the reciept for this line.
