Question: Fuel filters

I'm changing my fuel filter tomorrow and somebody mentioned something about relieveing pressure... I've never done it before and it's never been a problem.. but do I need to do something to relieve pressure before I change it? If so... I think there's a problem heh.

Thanks

All I ever do to relieve fuel pressure is take the gas cap off. You could also just depress the schrader valve on the back of the fuel rail, behind the intake manifold.

Yeah, that's what I always do (take the gas cap off). Never thought it was necessary to do anything else. I knew I was doing it right

thanks

Just take the gas cap off, it's only a 5 minute job at the most, you'll lose about a small cup of fuel from fuel still in the lines, but nothing more will run out unless you want to see what the fuel pump can do

When I did it, I relieved pressure at the Shrader valve. I also had the gas cap off. The box should tell you to do that too. If you have trouble finding the shrader valve, it is at the back of the intake in a way. Search the name Shoebox in LT1 tech and go to his website too. He had great pics. Good luck and make sure you have a bunch of rags.

well I did'nt take the gas cap off or relieve pressure from the valve, I knew it would be messy, so I had an old pan and old 20 oz pepsi bottle, as soon as I unhooked on hose I stuck it in the bottle, and after it stopped I did the other side, it only spurt out about a 3 big gulps worth of fuel, maybe an inch high in the bottle, however many onces that is. The hardest part is getting the lines off. If you find time, cut the thing open and enjoy the nasty sludge preventing good flow.

Thanks for all your input guys I ended up just taking the gas cap off like I had before and just let it spray out a little. I got covered nicely in gasoline though! Hehehe... It didn't take very long either. Thanks again!
