It's HYPERTECH time...

Hey all,
I've got the obligatory K&N filter element and FlowMaster muffler...and now it's time for some real fun: the HyperTech PowerProgrammer just arrived and I can hardly get to sleep so I can wake up tomorrow morning and put that puppy in!!! FYI, I contacted HyperTech and asked about all the negative feedback re: the PowerProgrammer. They said that most of the time it's due to a motor that needs a tune-up and/or running other than Super Unleaded gas. Well, mine passes both those criteria, so I'll letcha know if I got my yah-yah's or not....

Stay tuned,
Daryl

You should spring for a full Cold Air Intake rather than having just bought a K&N filter. Those will give maybe 5hp whereas an intake is more like 15-20 hp. That's a lot more fun

FULL COLD AIR INTAKE VS. FILTER ONLY

Dear Indy,
I looked into the full FIPK induction set up from K&N. I even went to the K&N website and got tecnical data on the horsepower increase with the full set up. They only boast 5-7hp increase with the FIPK set up. For $425, I didn't feel it was worth it so I just got the filter element only. I'll check out what Moroso has, having just seen your "add-ons" list on your reply to me. I wasn't aware that Moroso made cold-air induction. I thought they just did the heavy-duty motor stuff (valve covers, etc). What year is your car? If it's the same as mine, maybe you could recommend other modifications?
Hey, THANKS for the input.... I'm new to Chevy's and I'm really LOVIN' the performance of my Z28!!!

Well mine is a '93 and my Moroso CAI works great. I highly recommend it or the SLP, or GMPP. I think Moroso is the cheapest of those three.

this is a nice add-on for any cold air system http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/ramair/ramair.htm
if your feeling creative, you could make your own piping for that filter you bought, thats what I did, the filter was 40 bucks, and the piping hardware was around 5 bucks, much cheaper than a whole setup.
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6647/ta93/tbody.htm This is the ol famous throttle bypass mode in case your not familiar with it, supossed to give 5-7 horses, takes ten minutes and free.

Talking

Well, the HyperTech PowerProgrammer installed in about 20 minutes with NO problems. I went with middle-of-the-road increases in rpm and shift points, and I like the increases very much.
Also, took your guys' advice and researched SLP, GMPP, and Moroso regarding cold air intakes. Waiting for info back from each to see who's got a set-up for my year (2001) and I'm hoping that I can use the K&N filter element I just bought in one of those 3 cai systems.

Thanks again for everyone's help... and Happy Holidays!!!

Daryl

To: wantafastZ28: sorry you're bored!... but thanks for the help just the same....

Do you have a cat-back exaust to compliment the intake? If not you should definitely consider that. That or get a cutout which is tons cheaper. After that definitely get headers so the engine breathes in and out the best it can.
