MILD steel so look for your cheap CM elsewhere. Basically you don't EVER buy CM at a 'price is right'. The stuff is expensive.

4th Gen.

Everyone else keep me in mind when ready. It is weld in and Jig Cut for easier installation. I'll take $275.00

CM is also more expensive to install but saves the racers about 25 to 35 pounds.

I would question THAT amount of lesser weight but they certainly are a bit lighter. There are certainly more cost efficient and beneficial ways to save weight such as rotating or sprung mass.

My S&W Cromoly 8-point weighed in at 64 pounds of steel. S&W said their standard mild steel version was 90 pounds. So, about 30% weight savings. Does that sound about right?

My point was that Chromoly, though lighter, is about TWICE the cost, and costs significantly more to install. In my case, I had the extra $275 and found me a crack TIG weldor who was willing to TIG it for me at straight $50 an hour, if I did everything except hold the electrode. If I had to have the thing installed for me, I probably wouldn't have tried to save the weight.

However, 26 pounds was 26 pounds, and I'm trying to lessen the mass of the Firebird as one of my goals. You are right, unsprung weight is a much more cost efficient way of reducing mass, and my big, fat, heavy 17-9.5 inch wheels are not helping things much. That's why I may return to 16 x 8 flyweight rims and tires for racing. I can save an EASY 100 pounds just by swapping wheels.

I think you ALWAYS have to get into the cost versus cost effectiveness if you are an average racer on a budget such as myself. I figured I was going to have to put some weight in the car anyway and in my opinion a CM bar wasn't cost effective enough to warrant the huge total price difference. I still had plenty of options to lighten the car if only I had gotten off of my lazy butt and done them, i.e. bumper supports, air bags, etc...! Heck, I could have lost the weight myself to make up for a CM bar.

So while CM is a better 6 point, some of us COMMON folk have to make choices in their lives and on the race cars. My choice was to forego the CM bar and BRAG I had titanium valve spring retainers.
(No I didn't really have them because my bid on ebay fell short.)

In all honesty, I can say, I am quite pleased with the number of choices I made with my car over the years to get it to run some of the numbers it did at a budget probably 50%-60% less than alot of the cars I ran times equal or better than. 11.13 @ 121.94 1.45 with a 7.5/8" rearend... not too shabby with a 350, 10.75cr, mildly ported LT1 head @ 3200# car weight.
Tickled my fancy everytime it left the line lifting both tires 6".
