Tower Strut Bar w/ ASR?

My son has a 96 Z28 with ASR. He wants to get a tower brace, but not sure if the ASR unit will get in the way.

Anyone install a strut tower bar with ASR?????

Thanks,
Mike

The Spohn Performance shock tower brace works on all V8 models, 1993-2002, except the 96/97 SS.

Re: Tower Strut Bar w/ ASR?

Fred,

Thanks, I saw a couple of those on eBay and though I'd ask here before buying.

I'm going take a closer look on the car because the ASR unit looks awful close to where that bar will need to go across the engine.

Re: Tower Strut Bar w/ ASR?

If you stand by the fender and look at the bolts you'd mount it to and go directly across the engine bay (draw a straight line) to the other bolts you'll see the ASR unit is further back than that, it won't interfere if the bar goes straight across. The Granatelli one and maybe some others I believe are a triangular shape may interfere as they attach to the firewall or just under the windshield.

I've looked at a lot of pics of 93-97 engine bays and very few cars have ASR and those that did only a handful had the brace and it shows plenty of clearance.

From what I've heard a beefier sway bar up front does more than that cross brace but you can't readily see it with the hood open. Cross braces are more for bling effect. I thought about getting one but will get better sway bars instead. I might eventually get a used one and have a buddy powder coat it white to match my car.

Here's an LG Motorsports brace, on my Formula, without traction control. Might help you gage where it will fit. It passes over the valve cover centered between the first and second center-bolts:
