WS6 to CAI swap on stock WS6 car

Need some help. My car is currently at the body shop and they are installing a new SLP ram air hood and repainting my front bumper. I currently have a stock RAM AIR box. The car is originally a WS6 ram air car but my factory hood is damaged and needed to be replaced. Well with the SLP hood the hood is not closing or lined up correctly. The SLP rep said the hood is made for the SLP RAM air box which sits lower than the factory style. Of course SLP is no longer making their box. If I switch to an aftermarket KN type cold air intake what other items do I need? I need the elbow which looks obvious. Are all the sensors the same with the WS6 and standard trans am? I must keep everything emissions legal. If I purchase a stock elbow not sure if the WS6 has the resonator tube which plugs into the bottom. I do not have the car right now so I can't get a good look at what I already have just going from memory.

Thanks in advance

All of the sensors are the same. The WS6 doesn't have the donkey dongle, however, you should get that with the elbow as they go hand in hand. Unless you buy an aftermarket one which would more than likely be plugged. In my opinion, I would hunt down that other air box or see if there is another one you could use. The ram air works better than the CAI and it would be a shame to have a WS6 without a functioning hood.

Is there no chance to get a stock style hood?

I already bought the SLP hood for like $700 and it can't be returned. There were no notes on the site any place that said will not work with factory RAM AIR box. The original rep said the SLP was exactly the same which apparently is not correct. This second SLP rep that I called the other day said the slp ram air box is discontinued but is going to email me a part number. Haven't seen any used on ebay. I see there are after market RAM AIR boxes but I can't see spending another $300 or more. Rather spend about $200 for the elbow and CAI.

I have the SLP 93-97 Ram Air HO hood, and the SLP airbox. At one point, I also had a STOCK WS6 airbox. The airboxes are identical, except the SLP cover does not have the "PONTIAC" or "RAM AIR" logos, nor the formed gasket. I've also examined the SLP hood vs. a Comp T/A hood, and they are identical.

I did have a problem with the height of the SLP airbox being too tall, but it was sitting on an aftermarket Griffin radiator which appeared to account for the difference. We ground down the stock plastic radiator cover panel so it would sit directly on the radiator, and fastened it to the top of the radiator. Solved the height problem.

I have a simaliar issue with mine. Injuneer, can you post pics of the mods you did to get it to fit. Right now i just took the top cover off the ram air box and used zip ties to secure the filter to the bottom of the box.

Thanks,

If I remove the gasket on the top of the air box do you think that would solve the problem? According to the body shop it looks high by about 3/4 of an inch. I could always replace the gasket with something that lays flatter.

I have thought about that too but i have not tried it yet. I bet one could remove it and replace it if it didn't work.

If you decide to get rid of it let me know, I'm looking for one and have a CAI that could use as a partial trade
