Would this Work?

Would taking the temperature of the water (when the Thermostat opens up) tell me what temperature thermostat I have?

Trying to find a lazy way to do this.

The factory thermostat is 180 degrees in an LT engine. Just drain the coolant down a few inches, remove it and check it. If you go to a 160, you should touch-up the PCM tuning.

I thought the stock Thermostat was 192?

And I'm asking because I think the previous owner mite have changed it, but I'm not sure.

With reverse cooling of the LT1 the temp gage will read 10 deg warmer.
so 180=190, 160=170.

If just after warm up and while cruising, the temp gauge needle sits between the bottom and the first tick, then it has a 160. If it is between the first and second tick, it's a 180. (this is on a 1993 gauge that has ticks at 1/8 increments-I am using your sig as reference for the year)

Thank you. I'll check it tomorrow.
