I average 22. That's when I'm in the city and on the highway. If I'm all highway I push 26.

Wrong.

PCM tuning, better ignition, more efficient intake/exhaust, and better aerodynamics (i.e. lower car, using narrower tires) all can substantially improve gas mileage.

I used to get around 325 miles per tank and now I only get around 245 miles per tank(running bad). I think it's has 15 gallon tank (right?), so mine used to be about 22 miles per gallon. Now only 16 miles per gallon.

26mpg all highway, 20.5mpg 50/50, no idea in the city too much traffic variation. Car has heads, cam, headers 11.5 comp and makes just over 400rwhp from 6200-6700rpm through an a4. Should be pretty accurate numbers i drive it about 500 miles a week back and forth to work/school, about 16k on current engine.

I get about 20 mpg on the interstate with the TransAm - It is a 4L60E with 3.42 gears in the 12 bolt. I'm sure it's a lot worse around town, partly because of the stall converter and big tires. I have some part throttle tuning to do which might raise both up a bit - my timing might be off for non-boost cruising since I have lowered the compression in the engine to 9:1 static.

In contrast, the Corvette I have is averaging 20-21 mpg for mixed driving, and gets 25 on the interstate (according to its own instrumentation).

’97 A4 208,000 miles - CAI, Borla catback, new shocks with Eibach Sport-Line springs, 2000 SS chrome 10-spokes, SVO 30# injectors, Racetronix fuel system w/ plug and play wire harness and 255L/Hr integral Walbro pump – 14city/24@80mph hwy.

Looks like some here could benefit from a custom tune.

So a CAI and K&N air filter won't increase your gas mileage?

I've tracked every fill-up since I bought the car new. After 92k miles, my lifetime average MPG is 20.7 mpg about 50/50 hwy/city.

For the last few years, with the mods listed below, I've averaged 21.6 mpg 60/40 hwy/city

Mac Headers, Hooker catback
K&N FIPK CAI
1.6RR's
Custom tuned by me
275/40-17" Tires

Dan

With basic bolt ons in sig I rund about 19-20 with mixed city/hwy to and from work abusing it occasionally.

In the past I made frequent trips from Wichita to KC, and Tulsa to KC and recall getting about 340 miles to the tank without having to be too scared about running out of gas. Figure that to be 24-26 mpg.

What size tires are we talking here? I have some basic bolt ons (minus headers) on the car. Just bought here and haven't gone through a tank yet. My tires are 275/40zr17's. I know tire size helps/hurts mileage. The guys who average 20 city and 26 highway, what size are your tires? Just trying to gauge what I can expect.
