What weight of oil will serve me well?

Im going to be using the AC Delco PF35 filters, those are the large ones. I have a heads/cam LT1 with almost 90k on it and wondering what weight oil I should go with. Thinking 10w30 in the summer? 5w30 in the winter? I live in Colorado, so we have both extremes here.

Still cant decide if i want to switch to synthetic or a semi synthetic....think I might go with the semi synthetic from castrol, good choice?

well ****, autozone said ac delco discontinued the PF35 filter? Is this true? Any other AC delco that will fit on the lt1 besides the pf25 (too damn small)? Want a large filter. And the k&n are so damn expensive....

Fram makes good filters. It's all i've ever used, never any problems. And if you get "in the zone", they should be able to cross reference it for you. I use 10-30 summer, 5-30 winter. 20-50? Save it for your 9 second race car. I can't tell you how many clowns i've seen use 20-50 in January, for their street car. "Well it keeps the engine cooler." "uh.., ok."

well I just switched to mobil 1 10w-30 oil with a mobil 1 oil filter. I'll probably go back to 5w-30 when it gets cold. this is the 1st time using mobil's oil filter, I usually use the ac delco pf25.

Don't mean to be an ***, but how is this a bad thing? I mean if you change it at the right intervals, it should be ok, right? Even if the cardboard broke up (still not sure if this is true, but lets go with it), wouldn't the, uh...FILTER CATCH IT?

Yeah, the AC Delco 1218, the oem oil filter for my 90 454SS truck. It makes changing oil simple. I just buy one type filter for both vehicles.

the pf35 is not discontinued, it is the pf25 that was discontinued (the stock replacement for our cars) and replaced/cross referenced with the pf454. the pf 454 is a wider filter but not very long at all.

10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter is the best way to do it. im currently running mobil1 full synthetic 10w30 (green top)with a mobil1 filter.

Well they dont have em, but they do have the 1218 so i think i'll get those.

phat, its cool if you like cardboard floating around in your motor, but I dont. Why even risk it when the prices are the same for each?

There is so little difference between 5W-30 and 10W-30 that I can hardly see switching with the seasons. Most cars will be fine with 5W-30 year round. I use 15W-50 because my car isn't used in the winter, is always warmed up before putting mcuh load to it, and is set up with large bearing clearances. But that's an exception.

Use 5W-30 synthetic and you should be fine.
