If your engine has a vented Opti, either someone made the conversion (I have converted my 94 to vented), or the entire engine has been swapped. Check the partial VIN stamped on the block to see what year the engine is. Again, courtesy of Shoebox:

ok i will... but as of now im going to order the unvented opti because if worst comes to worst i know i can exchange it with summit for the vented one. as far as the blue thing on the inlet elbow goes i think its just beacaue he probably replaced the elbow when he put in the cai.....my car is currently in storage so its not readily avaible for me to go look at..its about a half hour drive

Why don't you check to see what optispark you have instead of guessing?

Msd opti

On my 94 i bought the#8381.This product beats the junk oem i had!It comes vented, has a serviceable cap/rotor,better sealing.I,m on now a 3rd. opti, the first owner had the h20 pump go@15,000 mi& the opti went as well.I got the 2nd. one wet when i had the coolant replaced(to orange from green)@ Canadian Tire back in 99'(i,ve never gone there again for work!)& car ran like sh...t till the opti finally threw a code 36 in Oct.07Also just buy a stk. coil as Msd/ etc. are all built in China nowadays. My Msd coil just died last fall& it was only 1&1/2 yrs. old.I also did the h2o pump when i did the opti;i just went w/ a jobber brand, not GM.IMO that 93/94 opti was another one of GM,s boneheaded moves& why their reputation went downhill.

WOW.Some members have had the optis for over 100K,but replaced thier water pumps before hand. It's a known fact that the msd igintion box only softens the idle, but burns up opti's.It is a waste of money.Actually GM built a pretty good product. It's brain surgeons like me who spend thousands of dollars on junk,on after market crap, and bitch when something goes wrong.Try the Accel coil, now there is a piece of work.Blew up in one day here.Stuck on the freeway for 2 hours. The silver bullet is GM original stuff.Might read your owners manual for the green ,orange stuff.I think it says stay green for this car I dunno.Something about burning the welds out f your radiator.Hope this helps.(My question is ,why do people come here for advice, and when they give it , somebody shoots them down?)Beer time .

Well, folks can listen to whoever they want. But it does seem silly when people are just looking for validation and reject what doesn't fit their preconcieved notions. Like you said, in that case why ask?

Its really weird.... someone asked about the Accel Opti last week, and one person said he had one for 2 years with no problems. Several others described instant death with a brand new Accel. I posted links to posts from a really knowledgeable LT1 expert, who had problems with the Accel. Many suggested a "search" for Accel Opti problem threads.

Guess what the OP decided to buy?

That "fact" is enthusiastically refuted by me and my 10 year old opti run with MSD 6A and Blaster coil (as well as most anyone else that runs an ignition box). An ignition box does not only work at idle, either.

Ditto.... mine ran for years with an MSD-6A. Box was a necessity with nitrous.
