What Drive Shaft??

I would like to get a new aluminium drive shaft but don't know what one to get!

93-97 1LE aluminium part #10085375
or
98+ LS1 aluminium drive shaft part #12564004

Also is there a difference in the diameter, 3-3.5in.

Thanks

RYAN

Denny's Driveshaft offers a selection of aluminum shafts which can be viewed at http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/ I've used Denny's for years and always been happy with the product.

The LT Al shaft is comparable to OEM shafts and are available in 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0" diameters. The HD shaft is much stronger than the OEM aluminum, though more expensive. I'd stay away from an Al shaft, except for the HD, if this is a hi-po application that will run on sticky tires.

Thanks for the replies!!

I am looking for some thing that will replace the original steel one and will work well with upgrades. Heads, cam, e.t. streets, etc.

And another thing. If I go to a MOSER 12 bolt will the drive shaft still fit or will it have to be replaced??

Thanks

RYAN

The 1LE is not a bigger diameter shaft than the LS1. The LS1 is 3" and the 1LE is 2 3/4", it's a little smaller diameter. The walls of the 1LE are thicker though than the LS1 and it has stronger Spicer U-joints. If you switch to a 12 bolt you will need a shorter DS, you can have any DS shortened or buy a new shorter shaft to work with it. If you are buying one new I would go with the 1LE, new it's only $15 more than the LS1, I paid $235 shipped for mine compared to $220 for the LS1.

Guys I was kinda thinking about doing a driveshaft too...how much of a difference will it make and will it be noticable? I'd figure about .1 or .2 in the 1/4 mile...any thoughts?

your not going to gain any speed in the 1/4 mile. www.ws6.com did a dyno of an alum ds and picked up a couple lbs of torque. there is no way you'll see a gain of .1 or .2!

you should notice a decrease in highway speed vibration though.
