Clarify bolt ons...
He would NEED sticky tires and a nitrous shot to do a low 12.

I ran a 12.98 with below mods and DRs. I'd say low 12s would be out of the question, but you never know. Some cars are freaks.

randy brown and a bunch others were running a small nitrous cam from comp cams with headers and 4:10's , most of the guys were 6 speeds . they ran in the 12.2's all day long at whatever alt rockingham dragway is in the mid 90 degree weather in n.c years ago. since then most have built thier motors up. lots of folks in area and the east cost followed randys setup and had the same results. as far as needing boost or spray for a lt1 car to see the low 12's lmao you guys need to look around more http://www.herronperformance.com/

thats called matching parts and using your resources correctly. nitrous and blower for low 12's , you guys crack me up

simple, basic mods like throttle body and crappy programming... no tires, no suspension mods, no torque convertor... none of the major stuff... i just dont see it. these cars ran 14.x's stock with experts drivin...

12.2 with some very basic boltons, not buyin it.

just curious,,, what did the guy in the 'other' lane run? any chance your friend is right/left challenged?

w/bolt-ons, converter, gears, and a cam I went 12.2 on a 1.65 60'

I also went 12.2 with bolt-ons and a 100 shot.

I take it he didn't show you a timeslip? If he didn't even show you a slip, then it's safe to call BS on that. I'm not saying it's not possible to do, but wouldn't you save the slip? I have most of mine from wayback.

"Barely any mods" to me means no cam. Please show me a setup that will hit low 12's without nitrous, slicks and/or a blower. Match boltons all you want, without a cam you will not hit 12.2's.

I'd say a mid to high 13. I went low 13's with more boltons than that and my car dead hooked. No way. Sounds like a ricer story.

He'd need a 1.5-1.6'ish 60 to run that with little bolt ons.

^ I dont even think you could get that launching at redline and going to full throttle immediately, with the stickiest compound tires you can get. Well, at least, at his power level.

Re: what does it take to run a 12.2 in the 1/4

Bolt on LT1 cars have run in the 11s. I am not saying that is a typical LT1 bolt on time, but the guys that really take time to sort out their cars and do some serious weight reduction can get down there. I would certainly agree that the average bolt on LT1 runs more like low 13s high 12s but low 12s are certainly doable in a good combination and great conditions.
