what is a 377

I read an article (Cam-O-Rama) in popular Hot Rodding. They built a LT1 and said it was a 377 with a 5.850 inch rod and an Eagle cast crank. I was wondering if this is a standard 4.000 in bore with a stroker crank or what the heck is it? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I tried to find it in calculations but no luck.

4.155" bore, 3.48" stroke
Gen1 motors used a bored over 400 block and a 350 crank.

But you can't bore an LT1 to 4.155. You would have to sleeve it.

4.00 bore x 3.75" stroke = 376.99 CI

One of the mags ran side by side tests between a 383 and a 377, built the same, other than the cubes/strokes. It's the old stroke Vs RPM debate rearing its ugly head once again.

The results were predictable, more torque (383) Vs slightly more high RPM HP (377).

I've forgotten what mag I saw it in, but I'm sure I have it around here somewhere.

BTW, Bore x Bore x Stroke X .7854 x 8 will let you play with the CID of various combinaions, just in case you don't find a calculator online.

Then its not an LT1, because no one makes an aftermarket LT1 block.

The OP was asking about an LT1, not a Gen 1.
