Re: Weird Idle Issues

Thank you lol. We made the decision and went with a new MSD Optispark. Getting a GM one up here was out of the question, even bringing the Delphi one up was going to be $600.00+. Seems with the Delphi one you really don't know what your getting.................... The MSD unit seems very robust, serviceable and adjustable.

The delphi is preferred by most who have been servicing the lt1 over the msd and is built by the same people as the ac delco with the same specs(was also production on some models from factory I believe). The msd are hit and miss and the adjustable feature is typically felt as more of a problem than anything(if you research them). Hope it works out for you. Here is a source you could try as I find it hard to believe the shipping would be $200. Check out this item I found on eBay:

DELPHI OPTISPARK DIST,Pontiac Firebird,T/A,1993,94,LT1

Link: Delphi Optispark Dist Pontiac Firebird T A 1993 94 LT1 | eBay
same place sells the newer style vented opti if thats what you have.

Re: Weird Idle Issues

The shipping is only a small part of it. To bring it in to Canada legally, you have to pay the difference in the dollar (.08 at current exchange) brokerage fee, (min $35.00) duty, and 13% taxes. So a $400.00 part would translate to about $ 564.00 + cdn dollars. I spoke with a few other racers here who have used the MSD unit and they had nothing bad to say about them, stayed in the car for the years they owned it and went on the next owner (we usually get bored of the car quickly lol).

Our opti is the old non vented style, we arent gonna touch the timing lol and the MSD unit I got has all the wiring and an option to make it vented if we so desire. Hope it works lol
