Weird heating problem going on with my 383 in Florida

UPDATE** i tried everything and i dont know what is going on and why my car is heating up the way it is within about 20min of driving it gets up to the third marker gauge but there is no coolant leaks is there anything else it could be? could it be my fans but how would i test something like that?

here goes something is going on with my cooling system... im originally from georgia and havent had a single cooling issue there i think the hottest my car has seen was the halfway mark but now that i have moved down to orlando florida during these hot day of 97 degrees... im seeing my car going into the third mark on the indicator and the car is running like s*** its sputting and all... my car has a meziere water pump new radiator oil cooler is bypassed and its full of coolant i dont understand but the weird thing is i have while driving smelled coolant but its not leaking anywhere under the car and my heater core has been already removed long ago why would my car get this way is it simply the weather?

Tell us more about the problem, Is it just a idle problem or does it get hot while cruising. You did'nt mention if your cooling fans are working. Is it possible the cooling system has air in it.

the fans are definitely kicking on and this happens while im cruising i also know the water pump is working because i can hear it and see a steady stream of coolant and there shouldnt be any air in the system since i never had this problem before and it is just recently happening im stumped can it be the stem pipes that are behind the heads?

That could make it worse. The thermostat directs coolant flow to the right places on an LT1.

I had a buddy that chased the same symptoms for a few weeks...it turned out to be a plastic bag stuck to the front of the radiator. Don't overlook the most simple things.

also...make sure that BOTH fans are coming on

When I lived in Miami my buddy never got his car to run cool with an electric pump... I had no issues with stock setup... You must run a t-stat on the LT-1! If your smelling coolant it's probably from the heater core, which has allowed for an air bubble in your system.... I would see if your system holds pressure with a tester...

I live in Kissimmee and have a Meziere water pump. It can certainly keep it cool in our summertime weather.

If you've checked for blockage underneath the car...the 'plastic bag' problem referred to earlier, check to see if the radiator is roughly the same temperature top to bottom. If it isn't you could have a partially blocked radiator.

Another thing..is the plastic air dam on under the car. Without that thing under there, air isn't deflected into the radiator. Everything else can be working perfectly and will overheat if that's missing.
