wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
i have a 97 camaro z-28 and im wanting to build it to a 600RWHP street/strip car.Id like to do this with no supercharger/turbo or nitrous. Im hopeing i can do this within 6K but if it cost more im willing to do it. I have this somewhat planned out and would appreciate any comment or suggestions.
This is my plan for future mods:
K&N CAI
performance maf
trick flow lt1 inlet elbow
trickflow 58mm tb
not sure if i should port stock intake or buy an aftermarket
aftermarket heads(unsure of which to get)
cam and roller rockers
roller lifters
valvesprings
scat forged crankshaft
speed pro forged pistons
scat forged i-beam rods
plasma-moly coated rings
yank 3600 torque converter
hypertech programmer
long tube headers( i have bbk shorties right now)
cat-back exhaust
Not sure how much hp i can get with that, i guess it comes down to which heads and cam i get, im looking for the most aggressive cam i can get while keeping the car somewhat streetable. Please tell me what im leaving out and if this is possible.

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
Oh dear.
A SHORT-block built to handle 600WHP is going to cost you $6k, much less an entire engine. I suggest you start doing some serious searching because you are nowhere NEAR being in the ballpark, both with part selection and overall budget.
Come to think of it, I don't even know of any N/A LT1s that make 600whp, but those builds that come close have $25,000+ invested.
EDIT: To give you an estimation, my motor alone cost me around $9,000.

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
You are going to need at least double of those 6K because you are going to have to build up your transmission to handle all that power. You will also need another rear end as the 10 bolt won't hold up to that much power. Also plan on spending a lot more money for a fuel system that will supply all the fuel need for 600rwhp.
As for the parts you won't need a hypertech programmer it would be much better to get a dyno tune. As for the interior engine parts somebody else will have to chime in on that as I am just researching on what to do with my car.
I don't think a 600rwhp N/A LT1 will be too friendly on the street, I would go the force induction route personally

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
600whp is about 750fwhp. That's more powerful than the LS9.
Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
It would cost a fortune to make a streetable 600rwhp LT1 w/o blower or nitrous. Much more than $6K. IOW - fugeddaboutit.
Think of it this way - a very good street/strip SBC conventional 23 degree head motor oughta make ~1.3hp per ci. and costs lots more than $6K. If you build a 396 that will put you a bit over 500hp (a bit over 400 at the wheels). Here's a big bore aftermarket block 427 RACE motor (needs 112 octane) with 23 degree heads from Reher-Morrison for $14,000. http://www.rehermorrison.com/rmEngines.htm Makes a bit over 700hp (~600rwhp). If you spend $6K and get over 400rwhp w/o a blower/nitrous you can consider that "job well done".
Concentrate on the induction system!

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
Let's see 600HP at the rear wheels.... no power adder. Through an M6, you need to make close to 700HP at the flywheel. With an automatic, you'll be using a TH350 or TH400, and you'll need to make closer to 750 at the flywheel.
Here's a link to a 396 LT1 making 626 RWHP normally aspirated through a G-force G5FR trans. Its running Nextel Cup SB2.2 heads, which I suspect cost more than your budget for the entire engine. I doubt you could build the engine, with the required fuel system for less than $20,000.

Then as noted, you'll have to put another several thousand into the drivetrain, and another couple thousand into the suspension.
I'd say your budget of $6K is going to come up a bit short.

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
Any current mods?
If you're stock, I'd do all of the bolt-ons, suspension modifications, and a heads/cam swap. You could MAYBE do that for around ~$6000 and end up with around 400whp.

I'm not so sure why!
