wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
I predict much reading in your future. A 5 minute search would reveal 600rwhp to be a pricey "investment".
If you want a 400rwhp weekend car you might be able to swing it with 6000.
Start searching and reading, everything you want, think you want, might think you want has been done and documented. That's the beauty of this site, lots of information to learn from and no need to wait for responses.
The rest I might feel like saying has already been said.

I don't think you have ever driven a 400rwhp fbody much less a 600rwhp one. I think you will be more than fine with a 383 short block combined with a custom cam matched to advancedinduction heads. After you put all of your cash into your lt1 then you will need to mod the suspension and the tires/wheels;also eventually the rear end, trans/clutch will need to be upgraded because you will break something. http://www.advancedinduction.com/Abare.html, I would build a car slightly milder than the 9sec TA on this site. 6k will not even be close when it is completed. From reading your post I don't think you have driven a properly built heads/cam lt1; you might just be happy with a stock bottom end H/C lt1 with all the supporting mods to go along with it. What ever your decision AI is one of the best places to go for your top end.

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
I'm going to guess you saw an ad for the LT4 conversion claiming 430hp...if you did please go a different route. Not saying its junk, but there are plenty of other places out there will get much more usable power for the same money.
Even if you had all free labor throughout this build you couldn't come close with 6k. No offense but the fact that you had Hypertech Programmer listed as one of the mods shows a need for some guidance in your build.
If you built your motor to be a 450 fwhp motor that would be a huge difference in what you have now. That would be plenty to be a handful on the street.

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
you def have a ton of homework to do...im looking to put 650 to the rear tires with a blower let alone N/A, and just in the motor and trans alone ill have close to 13,000 invested and thats before the d1sc...id say throw some spray at it and make 400 to the tires i think u will be please i know i was when i first did it!
Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
Your asking the little LT1 to be a much bigger motor than it really is.
If u want big power from a NA engine, I suggest u build a 500+ cu inch big block. NO matter what u build, it won't be cheap to reach 700+ HP and everything around it has to also be built to handle it, with a roll cage of course.

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
Most of the guys here that have a car that can put down more than 400 hp have tons of hands on experience. They can take their cars apart and put them back together blind folded, and have the tools, space and knowledge to do so (or have paid lots to have them built). I have much respect for them, and wish I was as capable.... but I am not, and I knew that if I were to build the car I wanted from the ground up would cost over $10k on top of the cost of the vehicle. So I did some research and waited for the right car to come up for sale that was in good shape and had what I wanted done to it for the most part. I had to fly out of state and drive it back, but it was well worth it.

600 rwhp for cheaper you would have to go Forced induction or Nitrous... That said force induction can be closer to $8k on the engine and maybe you can do a nitrous setup that has that amount of power for a bit over $6k if you choose parts right and inject quite a bit of nitrous... Then you will (not should, will) have to upgrade rear end and possible tranny not to mention that if you actually use that power on the strip you will need to put a bunch of safety equipment just to be able race it on the strip (need to pass tech).
That said first build a 400-450 rwhp engine and see how it feels. I believe that will be enough for a car that is street driven... Then in the future maybe add a 150-200 shot of NOS

Re: wanting to build 600RWHP LT1
A friend of mine in Pa has a 2008 Corvette ZO6 that he had massaged by Corvette doctors. He started with the 505 horse LS7 engine, poured THOUSANDS into it and ended up with 598 rear wheel horsepower. Three things about that:
The LS heads on the LS7 flow a bit better than LT1 heads and, after porting, are significantly better than you'll be able to get with heads for the LT1. Architecture gets in the way.
The LS7 starts at 427 inches which is huge compared to the 350 in the LT1. That 77 inches helps provide a lot of potential.....there is no replacement for displacement. Oh sure, this is where power adder guys tell me I'm full of it.
And, lastly, you should drive a very powerful car before you turn yours into something you won't like. 400 rwhp is a handful sometimes, even if it doesn't sound like much. 598 scared the hell out of me on the street...and the owner as well!
You might try a different approach. Perhaps you could target a particular ET and work backwards from there. Remember what most have already said..there is way more to a car than just the engine. I didn't read every post but I figured that I needed about half as much of the engine budget for the drivetrain and suspension. So, $6K in engine, you'll spend another $3K in drivetrain and suspension. Even that's light..a 12-bolt is going to run almost that.
