Vacuum question
Vacuum question
Having an issue with my PCV system, pressurized crankcase problem. My first question takes place where the valve cover "breather hose" comes up to the throttle body. Should there be vacuum at that port at idle? I've got nothing.. what do I check?
Re: Vacuum question
To help diagnose things, take off the oil fill cap with the engine running...any puffing going on?
Re: Vacuum question
Just lots of smoke/steam. If under good amount of throttle, some oil will spit out the hose coming from the valve cover.
I just put new rings/bearings in this engine over the winter, it has maybe 10 miles on it. Maybe the rings just aren't seated yet?

Re: Vacuum question
Normally, in a healthy engine, with minumum blowby, there is air flowing from the throttle body end of the hose to the valve cover. That air is pulled through the crankcase and the lifter valley by the vacuum at the bottom of the intake manifold, provided by the PCV valve. It only flows vapor out the valve cover and into the throttle body (in front of the blades) when there is excess pressure in the crankcase, or no vacuum being supplied by the PCV valve.
