Underdrive pulley not good??

The 95 Firehawk I just got has an underdrive pulley on it that is NOT a dampener type pulley. Its just an aluminum non damper type. The question is should I ditch this pulley for an underdrive pulley that is a dampening type?? I just dont want to have any bearing problems later because of this aluminum pulley on it. Will it kill my engine or not? LOL

Only if your not running the damper.

Thats the problem, it actually takes the place of the damper. You unbolt the damper from the hub and put this in its place. It bolts to the damper hub. I personally dont like how that is.

Jeg's makes a high-quality underdrive damper for the LTs that is also SFI approved. They also have a replacment LT hub w/ key which is an upgrade over the factory type.

Yep, im taking this sucker off today. Ive been checking this thing out and it is actually a piggyback pulley. BUT the person that had the car before didnt bother putting the stock damper back over the underdrive. NOT GOOD. I hope it hasnt screwed anything up. Still has good oil pressure and no vibrations. For now im going to put a stock one on it.

As you figured out, its a "sandwich" style pulley. You pull the stock damper off the hub, put the U/D pulley between the stock damper and the hub, and bolt it all back together.

The damage from not running the damper will be fatigue of the crankshaft, from the harmonic vibration. Its not likely much damage was done, but you never know. It isn't going to show up as lost oil pressure.

Im hoping that it wasnt like that for very long. The car only has 53K on it. The 5.0 Mustang I had also had the same problem. Someone before me put the wrong Fluid damper on it. I didnt know this. and after about a year I had an oil pressure problem. I guess the bearings wore out early. Wasnt a real bad pressure problem but about 5-10 pounds less than usual. A week after that the crank broke between the #1 and #2 cyls. What a mess that made. Broke at about 6000 rpms. pretty much destroyed the AFR heads that I just put on it. Good thing I cought this or could have had the same problem.

What set were you using? Most (even asp with 34 on the crank and 15 on the alt) say that full charge is maintained at 1050rpm

The ASP is an integrated damper/under-drive pulley, not a sandwich type. I ran the 2-pulley ASP set (although I thought the 2-pulley set was 24%/15%)and it wouldn't keep the volt meter out of the red on a hot day with the brakes on, idling in heavy traffic, etc.

you are correct with the integrated damper kit, but however they also have the piggyback / sandwich styles available for around 99.99
