Turning Rotors ?

How many times can you have a rotor turned? I always thought it was just once, and then replace them, but I've heard others say differently.

The rotors will have a service thickness associated with them. I forget what it is for the 4th gen., often they are stamped on the "hat". If cutting them does not cause them to be below the minmum service thickness, that's fine. It's not the number of times you can turn them but how thick they are afterwards.

I like the idea of resuing usable parts, but for high perfromance use I am leary of turned rotors. They have less mass to absorb heat, and they may therefore have more tendency to warp, which is why you need to turn them in the first place. But if $$$ is tight, go ahead. It need to be done right, like any other auto machine work.

BTW: You can't see me in my 10sec car 'cause I am too far ahead of you.

The rotors aren't warped, I'm just replaceing the pads, and always thought it was necessary to turn the rotors when doing so so the new pads would have a new surface to mate to when installed. I have heard that some people say the just sanding the rotor down smooth with sand paper is enough if the rotor surface is in pretty good shape.
Any comments?

Hahaha. I believe you on that one! That qoutes more for the ricers and guys who are driving in there friends beater, talking about they have a 10 second chevelle this, 11 second Nova that at home.

D*mn, I've wasted a lot og money over the years then. Oh well, chalk it up to experience. SHould I at least hit the rotors with some sand paper to give the rotors a fresh surface?
