turn off code 43 or do the resistor stuff

what are the pros and cons to just turning off code 43 when doing an OBD1 conversion? i know about the resistors and that is how i was going to do my conversion. I have also heard about turning off code 43. seems doing that is just as easy and works fine. I wanted to know what others thought though. thanks

Why do you not want the knock sensor to work? If you convert your 96 to OBD-I, all you need to do is replace the 96 high impedance sensor with a 93-95 low impedance sensor.

Re: turn off code 43 or do the resistor stuff

id like the ability to simply unplug one computer and replug the next one in really. no draining of coolant or anything more. turning off code 43 does not disable the knock sensor it simply turns the code off that tells the ECM that the resistor values that it is seeing are wrong. ie the knock sensor is bad. at least that is how it has been explained to me. if thats the case i dont see anything wrong with just turning off code 43, but i dont know everything so i thought id ask. thanks.

All you need to do is have your OBD-I PCM modified to accept the OBD-II high impedance knock sensor. You're making it more difficult than you have to. Turning off the diagnostic would prevent you from knowing the sensor has failed.
