Re: Trick Flow Intake Elbow

Just get the 1LE Elbow and call it a day. You will be better off. If anything you will loose power with the elbow due to heat soak to the intake charge.

The only reason for using a rigid metal elbow is for Forced Induction applications where there is too much pressure for the rubber elbow. Even a little boost will cause the elbow to expand like a balloon!

Just an idea, what if you get a two-ended vacuum-t from a parts store. Drill an exact hole into either the elbow or the ducting, plug one end of the vacuum-t into the drilled hole, and run a vacuum hose from the other end to the opti.

Always make sure the line to the opti is working! Your opti is likely to die a sooner death without airflow.

Do not feed the opti from in front of the MAF. All air entering the engine should go through the MAF first, otherwise it is unmetered, and the PCM will need to correct for it (lean BLM readings). I don't think it draws enough air to be a serious problem but nonetheless it isn't the "correct" way of doing things.

There isn't any measurable power increase at all from this mod. I'm running a 1LE because it is required to get rid of the "donkey dong" when running an electric waterpump. I chose the 1LE over the trick flow because it is lighter, cheaper, and is less thermally conductive. Every little bit helps!

btw, for those guys that say the elbow or CAI is cold after running the engine... that is bad. You would want the surface to be the same temp as the surrounding air it's in. If it's cold, where do you think the heat went?

Also, if you have a metal CAI (like the SLP, which I have) you will need to cut about 4 inches off of the Vortech to make it fit. Not to mention you need a tap for the air intake temperature sensor. A PITA for something that will really gain you now power.

It does look better, though.
