Top Speed
Look.. i dont care what some of you guys THINK you know about this... Maybe some models didnt have a fuel cutoff...who knows. Fact of the matter is I can push the needle past 150... down into the dash and the car doesnt stop increasing in RPMs until I let off... (5300rpm in OD w/ 3:42s) Regardless thats WAAAAAY past 155mph. I have done nothing to the stock programming. Which from my understanding should have a value of 255 in the limiter setting. Could be on a year by year basis... however in 95, A4, w/ 3:23s factory optioned QLZ... I DO NOT have a limiter.
I haven't read the whole post, but here's some info I gathered from experience.
93-95 cars with non z rated tires and an older PCM calibration were limited to 108 MPH and received a 110 speedo.
94 and 95 cars had a newer calibration from GM which raised the limit to 118 MPH.
93-95 Z-rated cars all had the speed limiter set to 255 MPH.
96-02 F cars with non z-rated tires all had 118 MPH speed limiters.
96-02 F cars with Z rated tires were all limited to 160 MPH.
Yes, it does cut fuel for that instant, both when it hits the rev limiter and/or the speed limiter.

I sure hope you OBD1 swap guys read this too

i hit my rev limiter in 6th gear one time.
ok now that you all think i am nuts.....
my clutch was slipping so bad that i actually did hit it. i was only going like 140ish. about 2 months later my clutch was completely gone.
i know that this doesn't mean much but i thought it was funny.

yes it is. with z rated tires my car shut down at 155 it takes some changing in the pcm via tunercat or lt1 edit to rmove this.
trust me. every car (fbody) had a speed limiter on it from the factory. and the highest is 155 some came with 108 i bekieve and i think that was 93 and 94 ( could be mistaken on that though)
you may have bought one that someone had instaled a hypertech and removed the limiter, but if it is stock it 155.
if you have tuner cat look at the stock file on your car in the constance table and it will show the speed limiter. if you dont have a stock file to read i can send you one i got off the net from brents page. but that only if you have the software to read it.
by the way who told you this. a magizine or something.

What i said was corect, i just didn't know the exact speed for each year. there is a fuel cut off on all cars at certain speeds. and if you ask madwolf when you hit for example 160 it will cut fuel momentarily and then add it back not allowing you to excede 160.
I think you guys miss understood "cut fuel" and though it ment your car dies leaving you with no PS or brakes. It only cuts the fuel for how long you tell it to. in most cases including stock, it is set to resume fuel flow at the same speed as the fuel cut off.
I also believe it cuts it via injectors, and it may not cut ALL cylinders, but a couple of them.
I know mad wolf knows what im talking about, there is a Cut fuel and resume fuel speed/RPM for all 3 limiters (speed, 1st gear RPm and 2nd-6th gear RPM)
