I have 3:42s and using the gear chart from http://www.f-body.org/gears/ I went 5300rpm in OD (~169mph) Never touched the PCM.

dude, when you hit your rev limiter, it just drops your rpms down, it doesn't shut off fuel.

i've had my 97 six speed z at about 160 in 5th gear at approx 5000 rpm's,,and it kinda quit pulling, fuel didn't shut off cuz it didn't decellerate, just stayed around 160, and the same in 6th gear.

Umm, all you guys saying that there is no speedlimiter obviously are just GUESSING!!

If you haven't realized yet, the people who are saying there IS a limiter, are they goes who remove it via LT1 edit

I have LT1 edit and there are 3 limiters

1 is speed set at ...... 155-160 depending on model(mine was 160)
2 is 1st gear redline ....~5900 rpm
3 is 2nd-6th redline

so you dumbarses dont tell telleveryone there is no limiter. You have no clue

It does shut off fuel. again another person who doesn't really know LOL

I will take a screen shot for you guys..
for example.
The rev limiter on my car is set to cut fuel at 6400 RPM. THE FUEL WILL BE CUT OFF AT 6400.

NOW, there is a resume. stock and what most ppl do it set it to the SAME number at the limit. So i have mine set to 6400 rpm.

I can set that to 3000 if i wanted to and the engine would have to wait till it got down to 3000 rpm before it starts allowing fuel again. This is same for the speed limiter to, i can set to resume to 50mph if i wanted to. but that would be stupid

ok, so why when i was going 160mph, if "my fuel was cut off" did i continue to go 160 mph until I took my foot off the gas??
i guess my car runs w/o fuel

damn i want ur car, mine just sux it all up

yea if anything cut fuel lines ur engine would go off, and then u have no power steering or power breaks... but transmission wouldnt let the engine stop spinning so now ur engine, is still moving and it doesnt have fuel in it... sounds like a good idea to me, if anyone ever made an engine like that they were murdered by the CEO of the company...

I think you cant read.

Yes the fuel is cut off at 160mph on your car. but it is also put back in at 160. this means you hardly feel it, the car just stops accelorating above 160.

for your own good, read before you reply

Sorry, my car just kept going as long as I kept my foot in it. Always has. Maybe it's because you have an M-6, i'm not sure. Just don't tell I'm a dumbass because I did something you didn't.

Thats how it cuts down your RPM, by shutting off fuel. Thats why if running nitrous you need to have the rev limiter on the PCM bumped up and put in a timing style rev limiter on an aftermarket ignition box. You hit the stock limiter with Nitrous going and your gonna hurt alot of parts because of the lack of fuel.

Just one question....How do you know you were going 160???? Last time I looked my speedo only goes to 150 then its just guessing, unless you had your car hooked up to scanmaster or something of that nature that would read the speed off digitally to you. And also the guy that is saying fuel is cut off then resumed is right, that is how a rev limiter works, the computer doesnt push your foot back up to bring the Rs down, it cuts fuel until they are at the RPMs demanded by the PCM. So if you think logically about it, if fuel is cut at say 6400 then resumed at 6400 you wouldnt feel it jumping, it would be a smooth rev limiter, the only reason a rev limiter "bounces" is because it cuts at 5850 i think then resumes at like 5500 or something below the cutoff.

I JUST SETTLED THIS.. I have a 1997 Z28, I hit 155 (maybe 157 max) mph on the interstate and there was definitely a limiter. The car could have gone more but it would shut out, and then kick back in at 150.
