Go in straight and slightly rotate, make sure it's well lubed. Don't score any journals! Might want to start a couple of longer screws in the end of the cam to help get a good grip on it. As far as the opti; the dowel pin has to line up on the bigger indention on the back of the opti (there will be 3 of them it's the bigger one). Good luck!

A good timing chain for a cam like that in a 95 is the GM heavy duty set. Which I just happen to have a brand new one for sale, for $275 + shipping, they sell for $330 from Thunder Racing.

Unless you are using an electric WP you must use an LT1 specific timing set, which has the gear to drive the WP. Otherwise, if using an electric WP, you can use any regular SBC set (the cover may need clearancing).

This one is for an LT1, with a vented opti('95-'97)

It does have a distributor. It's called the optispark. You can find guides and info on my Tech Page that might help you.

yes because on a non vented opti('93-'94), there is a sprocket that drives the opti off of the main timing chain sprocket, and with a vent opti('95-'97) the dowel pin drives the opti. Unless you change your '94, to a vent opti, which will require a new timing cover, possible a new cam, a new intake elbow, and a new vented opti.

try to keep the back of the opti the same way it came off. but if not just make sure you line it up right when you put it back on. if i remeber correctly there is a little notch on the back of opti that you should line up with the dowel pin on the cam. the 3 leaf clover looking thing, don't force it on it will slip right on and you will know.
