throttle bypass question and codes
i feel like i lost some power after doing this mod isn't that wrong. i mean when i first did it i was low on gas and the car felt great i went and filled up and the car seemed very sluggish when i was practicing getting of the line when do you guys shift your cars i shift at 5,ooorpms and can churp sec gear.
also i have codes 400,403,1441,420,430 all comeing up when i check the ses light that's on which should i check first and are any of them causing another to go off.

Re: throttle bypass question and codes
there isn't a way for the car to lose power from the TBB i don't think.
how much coolant has to be drained? did you bleed the system after? i suppose it could be running hoter and causing sluggish.
i use to shift about 5700 or so when really racing. would spin pretty good in 2nd.
on old crappy tires i use to be able to chirp 3rd regularly too.
sounds like you have some serious code problems....how long have they been on?

Re: throttle bypass question and codes
the codes have been in the car for a while! like 3 months but back then the only code was 420,430. yes now that i think about it i did put low grade gas into my car which on my last tank i treated with a octane booster so maybe i will go pick somemore up today but i seem to churp a lot harder and pull harder when i shift before 5500rpms. i also went to change the spark plugs yesterday pulled the first one and it looked pretty clean only the top of the plug had minor carbon build up.
Re: throttle bypass question and codes
also i did not know that you needed to bleed anything when your doing a throttle body bypass but there is air in my system i think because when ever i punch the car real hard whn just warming up the temp goes up way to fast put never over 210 degrees unless i'm sitting at a light or in traffic anybody tell me how to bleed the system thanks for your support.
Re: throttle bypass question and codes
get the car good and warm and unscrew one of the brass bleed screws on the coolant tubes on the passenger side of the engine. should be 2 screws, on 2 separate tubes, between the front of the engine and the radiator.
open one untill you get a good stream of coolant, then do the other.
i think it is best to do this several times...with some driving in between to help get all the air out.
have you checked what the codes are for??

Re: throttle bypass question and codes
i found this page describing code 420 and it is the same thing but for bank 2 for code 430. this was for an LS1 but i think it's the same for your car.
and this for the 1441
looks like you have some research to do

Re: throttle bypass question and codes
Non of those codes have anything to do with the TB bypass. It is very unlikely it is related. How much water did you spill on the Opti when you did the TB bypass? There is no other reason it could have a negative affect on performance, other than the poorly vented coolant system already mentioned above.
P0400 = Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. Do you still have an EGR system?
P0403 = Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid control circuit. Same question as above. If you still have the EGR system, check the solenoid, including the fuse for the +12V power. Failure of the solenoid to open could set P0400.
P1441 = Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) system flow during non-purge. This is a little flow sensor valve in the line from the carbon canister. It sometimes fails, or the EEC purge solenoid is stuck open.
P0420 = Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) system low efficiency Bank 1. Do you still have cats? If you do, either the cat is faulty or the O2 sensor is faulty. If you have extensions, could be faulty wiring.
P0430 = Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) system low efficiency Bank 1. Same as above.

Re: throttle bypass question and codes
thanks i will bleed my car as soon as i get it back, my uncle woke up this morning with a need for speed, so he took my car and left his truck! i have all the smog equipment because i live in california. so is there a way to tell if it's the o2 sensors as opposed to the cats. also my egr valve looks new from what i can see but i know i never replaced it since i had the car. Other than hard starting what else would a bad fuel filter affect. because i believe mine is clogge d i bought a new one but how do you take the quick disconnect off. thanks for the help!

Say, I have a question about those 2 codes.
The cat's efficiency is monitored by the post-cat O2's (sensor 2). Now if the PCM senses the cat's efficiency is off, will it "tune" the engine to compensate or simply inform the operator to chack the cats? Reason I ask is that I read that the post cat O2's don't affect the car's performance any and the SES code could pretty much be ignored...hence the availability of the Sims for them.

Re: throttle bypass question and codes
If it tuned the motor to compensate for the cat, then It would run the motor lean.... and that would cause more damage to the motor then a faulty cat. But he might have a hard time passing the sniffer next time around. and It could be choking the the motor a bit due to lack of flow.
