Re: Throttle body bypass

Your prolly seeing the run off from your new mod. As long as your not seeing any leaks, your good to go

Re: Throttle body bypass

You mean the engine?
Or the exaust?
If it's the engine it's probably the coolant burning off.
if it's the exaust is the engine runing ruff?
If so you might have got the opt Spark wet.
Might need to dry out.
un Like other people here I have not had any problems with my opt spark and getting it wet.

Re: Throttle body bypass

the engine is smokin, i noticed it when i pulled into my garage. it went away rather quickly

the engine was a little rough at idle, but i think i accidentally slit a vaccuum hose, so i put electrical tape around it, i idled and drove slow in a parking lot, no die downs. everything seems fine. i hope i got the MAF down all the way...

my engine fades in and out it seems when it's at idle, is this normal?

Re: Throttle body bypass

I tried the TB bypass on my 95 Z28, I just can't get that little steam line clamp off, or even loose enough to turn it around to the top. One of the two clamp "ears" is backed up against the cylinder head so I can't get any pliers behind it. I could'nt get the other clamp off of the elbow either, too much stuff in the way. Could'nt get the TB off either after unbolting it as it had stuck to the inlet manifold, I don't want to force it off in case I break the gasket. I live in the UK and getting a new gasket is more trouble than its worth.

Picture of steam pipe to TB elbow

I gave up after three days of trying to get that clamp off. I might try again when I have something suitable to cut the clamp with.

Not a suitable modification if your an impatient person!

Re: Throttle body bypass

If you're trying to get the clamp off, just get a pick in behind it and pull it around the hose until it's accessible. When you pull on it it'll slightly expand and roll around the hose, though it'll take a little effort. I've done it a million times and it works like a charm.

What do you mean by pick? Like a screwdriver or something?

Re: Throttle body bypass

Yeah wedge a screw driver between the clamp edge and the valve cover and pry on it. It will loosen enough to rotate

Re: Throttle body bypass

I'll give it a try next time I'm in the engine bay. Theres not a lot of room to work on that clamp even with the alternator bracket and all the vacuum lines off, but seeing as its a free mod, I have to try!

Did you use new hose clamps?
Might need to get some.
Where is it leaking from?

Re: Throttle body bypass

it's leaking from the steam line where i put the return hose.

the part where the elbow is that i cut. it's leaking from there. i also dind't put a plug on the feed line where it was with the elbow because i couldn't find one, could it be leaking from that???? i noticed the return hose that i put on the steam line is really loose, and the clamp moved a little bit. i think the spring clamp slipped a little off the metal part of the steam line. i had problems because there was no chance in hell i was able to get the alt. brackets off, the black supports. am i supposed to use an electric or power device?

Re: Throttle body bypass

well I would get a new hose clamp.
And no it would not be leaking form where the elbow was.
Because nothing is feeding the TB anymore.
Might be some coolant comeing out of there but thats not a problem and it will dry out.
No big deal on the caps.
I would get them caped off so nothing gets inside there.
I had no problem takeing the alt bracket off just might be on there tight.
If so I wiuld use a brakeer bar or a pice of hollow pipe on it to get it off.

Re: Throttle body bypass

there is A LOT of coolant comin out...it's not leakin at the moment. should i do this tomorrow?? go to the store and get a new hose clamp, take out the alternator brackets, so i have room?

the biggest problem i had was with the alternator brackets,i wasn't able to loosen those up with my arms.

Re: Throttle body bypass

Well that's up to you I have to work outside.
so when it's dark and I'm going crazy I'm done.
Unless I need the car the next day.
And I can get the parts I need.
+ you don't want to over heat the engine.
Nothing is worth killing an LT1
