Those with the Crane 227, whats your setup?
The Crane 227 is hardly the kind of cam where you should even think about shaft rockers. The main use for shafties is not so much anything to do with the cam as it is when offset rockers are needed due to valve position. I am not aware of problems with SA rokcers with these kinds of setups, but you have got me thinking.
Ti retainers are a pretty decent bang for the buck item, though less so since the price has recently gone way up. They remove weight from where it means the most. Especially on a HR setup, where spring pressures are somewhat limited, they can really make a difference. On a SR setup, you can always use more spring up to a point. Where do you see wear on Ti retainers? The only contact should be with the keeper, and there certainly should be no movement there.

5,000 miles ago but I have seen two sets of Comp 730 retainers that showed
wear after about 5,000 miles. The set with the most wear was installed with
Comp 987 springs. I'm not sure what springs were used with the second set.
Both showed wear in several areas, and an amount of wear that seemed
excessive to me.
I'm going the extra spring pressure route to compensate for not having Ti
retainers this time around. It's just easier for me to have one less thing to
worry about.
