Location of sensor plug for ram air box??
As far at the physical loction of the harness connector, look at Shoebox's harness photo, which has all the sensors labled. Its for a 95, but the location in the harness will be the same. The IAT sensor wire comes out of the bundle that runs down the passenger side of the intake manifold, then to the front of the engine.

Without the IAT sensor plugged into the harness, you should have an SES light and a trouble code. You may have some issues at cold start. You may see a loss of 3* of ignition timing.
Why do you not want to hook it up?
Why do you not want to hook it up?
I was just wondering what it may cause the car to do when not conected. I did find it and hooked it up and it idles smoother now, it was hidding on top of my water pump! Now that I got that taken care of my throw out fork has gainedsome play! So no onto that problem, I have to pay somone to take care of that becaue I'm still recovering from my shoulder surgury.I just can't wait to get this thing 100% and get this thing into at least low 11's on motor then spray the garden hose at it! Thanks for all your input Injuneer!
If your IAT sensor (not just the empty harness connector) was laying on the water pump housing, there's a good chance you were losing some timing. If you do not want to put the sensor in the air box, just plug the sensor into the harness, and stick it somehwere that is will not be affected by engine heat. All the PCM is looking for is some indication that A) the sensor is there, and B) an indication of the actual inlet air temp. Don't forget to plug up the hole in the air box, so you don't pull unfiltered hot air into the box.
