Thinking of the Hot Cam Kit. Any suggestions
i got my hotcam kit for a little less than 500 from a chevy dealer in arlington heights IL...
But i know that Jegs sells it for a little over $500, which i think is an INCREDIBLE deal for all that you get, but im a bit biased.
And to be honest, that kit does more than "just barely" pull on an LS1... it has a lot to do with the driver of each car. Ive seen a lot of lame as 17 year olds (not hating) that own ls1's and have no idea how to launch them at all. I love the look on their face when I tell them that i still have 2.73 gears... haha... they hate that.

My car always ran like crap with the Hot Cam. I never really experience any positive gains. The car was one of the wonders of the modern world, because nobody could figure out what the F was wrong with it. I sold it and never resolved the issues.
On the positive note, many others have had great luck with the cam. I ran a 3200 Vigilante stall on 3.42 and 3.73 gears (surprisingly streetable, but the 3.42s were obviously more comfortable for everyday driving). Supporting mods with the cam and stall should definitely net you 12s trapping 110+ with a pretty good driver.

edelbrock - flow about the same as stock, so they need ported
TFS - huge combustion chambers, but flow good. The flow is not worth the loss of compression
AFR - expensive, and i believe made for blower/nitrous motors
your best bet is to send your stock heads to either Advanced induction, or lloyd elliot
the 847 imho, is a little rough for a dd car, but then again i dont own one and haven't personally driven a car with one. I thought about getting a hotcam but decided i wanted a more stronger cam for my next motor. as for beating ls1's, i've beaten plenty of them with the mods in my sig. automatic and manual. And a 05 gto also( i got to admit it was very close). anyway, back on subject, a hotcam with a good set of heads, nice tune and supporting bolt-ons should hit around 400rwhp. and oh yeah, the granitalli maf is probably your problem. i know a guy that lost a good bit of hp by just adding that maf. Also at my car club dyno day, a friend of mine ran his ported maf on and then mine, and gained about 3-5 hp by switching back to the my screened stocker.
isnt the 846 emissions legal too?
personally im going to get stock heads and have them sent off to be ported and polished to match the flow numbers to the cam i choose, i have heard that is a good option.

Yes it is.... it's a really cool cam too...that gets overlooked.
I like the hot cam, i have the whole kit in my 95 Z28 6sp with all the major bolt ons but no head work and i rape ls1's. I plan on sending my heads out or buying the AFR heads. they were a good reccomendation with the Hot cam kit. i put down 361hp and 358tq. i still need the heads though to break that damn 400 HP barrier. i am currently replacing my crank, rods, pistons, rings and bearings. Hopefully that will push a few more ponies out for me. any good rec on a kit w/all of those in it. not a stroker kit.
