Things to know before buying a 9"

If I were just to buy the $920 housing and axel package from moser, what else would I need to buy besides posi, gears and install kit before I get my car on the lift and start wrenching.

Anybody ever bought just the housing? I got a mechanic who will help me, but I need to get everything together and ready to go before I start. I just thought it would be cheaper to buy just the housing w/axels and get other parts elseware. I dont know much about rear-ends, so any information would help a bunch.

The key piece you appear to be missing is the "center section"... the removable part of the housing that holds the bearings, carrier and gears. Since you are putting this in an F-Body, you need a center section with the torque arm mounting bracket, if the bracket doesn't come with the housing, and since it bolts to special fittings on the center section, it might not.

I have a Moser 9" housing in my 88. The torque arm mounting bracket is a cast iron, HEAVY piece the bolts to the housing, not to the center carrier. The bolts must weigh a half pond each too, they are huge.
I am not too impressed with Mosers engineering on this setup.

If I were you I would seriously consider getting a 12 bolt instead of a 9". I have heard a couple horror stories about the way the TQ arm mounts up. If you do change your mind and decide to get a 12 bolt get a Strange, not a Moser. For one they are a couple dollars cheaper and you do not have to get a custom Driveshaft for it, but the Moser you do have to get one. I did a lot of research before I bought my new rear, and I chose the Strange 12 over Moser and the 9". Tbyrne has the best price on the Strange, that I could find.
