Suggestion on changing springs

Hi all,

I am building a 383 and am concerned about the springs on the heads I bought. They are CC 978's with Ti retainers and with a confirmed seat pressure of 130 lb and no coil bind on the very aggressive cam lobes I will use.

The rest of the valvetrain is as follows:
LS7 lifters
hardened pushrods
guide plates
CC pro mag 7/16 rockers

I want to rev to 6800. Knowing this, am I being cheap by not going with what the cam grinder suggests with the PAC-1218 or 1518's?

Thanks all
Ben

Going to have to tell us what lobes otherwise we are just guessing.

Based on what you have offered though I think you need new springs, 130 on the seat in a double spring is not going to control much to 6800rpms. Well I guess it depends on your definition of control though. I have a sneaking suspicion you are using a cam grinder who tries to loft the lifters on street cars and "control" it by having the spring smash into coilbind. Not my definition of control but apparently is to some.

I wish I could tell you about the lobes but knowing it is Bret Bauer will probably help. From my emails to him, he just gives an answer of "it it was me, this is what I would do" but wanted others to respond before I put out more money on this project.

"if it was me".......... I would pick a different cam guy. That is the best advise anyone can give you at this point.

I'm not going to say anything, but I have run Bret's cams and I've never had a problem. You will find more people that have good experiences with his cams than people with bad experiences. I'll update in a month or so after I run yet another one of his cams in hopefully what will be a 800+ hp monster.

Bret is usually on the money with valvetrain stuff.
