Strong fuel smell...

On my '94 (all stock) I keep getting a strong gasoline smell while driving. At first I though it was just under strong acceleration but it seems to at normal driving too. I am very "intimate" with these cars and I can't seem to find any leaks anywhere. I haven't checked cue pressure but intend to. This car it somewhat had to start , having to turn over a few times before firing. Any ideas?

Re: Strong fuel smell...

Like you said, checking fuel pressure would be a good idea. Could be leaky injectors and it could be running rich causing the smell. No codes?

Re: Strong fuel smell...

Quite possibly the charcoal canister for the evap system. The canister is located in the DS rear wheel well. Sniff around there.....

Ummm. What exactly happens when you overfill? Had mine more than 15 years and have not observed any issues occasionally topping it off and gas pouring out of filler neck being full.

Re: Strong fuel smell...

Most of the cars I've seen with stinky fuel smell entering the passenger compartment were the result of the vent line on top of the tank cracking. That's the line that goes to the EVAP canister.
