Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
Kept smelling fuel and thought it was just my charcoal canister. But had it running with the hood up and noticed fuel spewing out of plastic line. I have egr headers and its rubbing were the AIR pump hose would come in I think. It still runs just fine, it just needs fixed before I go boom!. Do i have to replace the whole line? I know its high pressure, but what about fitting regular fuel hose about a foot above and below the leak?
Re: Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
The bundle of hoses - supply, return, and evap - should be encased in corrugated plastic tubing, and held well above the AIR connection by a plastic support ring that pushes into the plastic throttle body linkage cover. The plastic support ring breaks off and drops the fuel line bundle on the AIR connection, and that's when it melts.
Re: Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
Yup that's exactly what happened . The motor was swapped not long ago ,and bet that's when the hoses weren't put back on that clamp. Ill have to get another clamp also. It isn't there. I bought the car with the motor swapped already.
Re: Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
The plastic support ring broke on mine, and I used a black nylon wire tie. Big end inside the TB linkage cover, stick the tie out the hole, around the tubing bundle, and then back into the hole in the TB linkage cover, and into the big end of the nylon wire tie.
Re: Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
Actually you're lucky. I remember a guy on here more than 10 years ago trying to stir up a class action against GM, after his fuel bundle fell on the exhaust, and the engine compartment went up in flames.
Re: Header melted a hole in plastic fuel line
When the fuel line bundle support ring broke on mine, I went to the local dealer for a replacement. They didn't stock them but they would order a bag of them for me if I paid for the whole bag, in advance. ISTR they wanted $55. I asked if the dealership would buy back the unused for their stock. The parts manager laughed me out of the room. They are one of the local UAW/DNC dealerships that was closed during 'consolidation'. Ty-raps forever!! Don't leave home or drive anywhere without an assortment of them!!
