stripped distributor gear

Anyone ever stripped a distributor gear?? If you have do you have any idea what caused it to strip? I have stripped two gears off and I have had two different motors and had the same problem in both motors. There are only a few things in the motor now that are the same as the first motor. The cam, the lifters and the retainer plate and the timing gears. all of which have about 7,000 miles on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

An LTX engine (factory Opti) "does not" use a gear-drive, the Opti distributor is direct-coupled to the cam shaft.

What cam are you using? Some require different oil pump drive gears.

a high volume oil pump will cause the pump drive to wear out prematurely, also, mismatched materials in the cam and the drive will lead to failure
