I gained over 40rwhp when I did this and have not had detonation related problems to date.

I guess I am lucky. I have nearly no KR according to my readings. Occasionally I will see a tad but never more than about 3 degree or so.

I do have a LT4 KM.

Mine is looking like a heat shield on the CAT right now or the shield around my manifolds. Both of those are going off when I get the MAC's in .So i'll find out if it was either of those. I can barely hear some vibrating metal of some sorts under the car when I accellerate which I'm guessing is what my false knock is.

Man, what a difference. I reduced the max retard WAY down (didn't have the ***** to zero it yet) and increased the attack rate a chunk too. My butt-o-meter definatly noticed a change at WOT It's was still pulling timing (3° instead of 10-12° at WOT) so she still has a bit more in her.

Interesting. I have been watching my knock counts go up, but it never pulls timing. Running premium fuel, my motor sees 40+ degrees of timing at over 6500 revs on the dyno, producing 420 rwhp. I was told when I first installed my LT4 KM that you should run the heck out of the car for the first couple hundred miles to allow it to adjust. Maybe this is why. Dunno.

I ran the LT4KM for awhile, then just recently had it tuned out all together.

How much knock was you reading to gain that much by removing it?

To put the 40hp in pespective, keep in mind this is a blower combo and the base timing was set at around 26 degrees at that time. It was pulling 8 or so degrees on top of that. Now, I run it at 24 degrees, where it makes max power.

I also have a blower car I am planning on having tuned later in the week, and am hoping for my LT4 KM along with my tuner to take care of any possible detonation.

Knowing my luck, if I turned it off, I would probably get detonation I wasn't aware of and end my newly refreshed motor.

Re: Status of knock detection/retard on your LT1?

When I had my car tuned he set the max KR to 4 degrees and made the decay rate alot faster, so even if I get KR it all goes away within a second, it doesn't take half an hour to go away like before.
*edit* It was definatly false knock to, there is no way I was getting 15 degrees of knock retard at part throttle at 2000 RPM's, or knock at idle. And with my mail order tune, for some reason he left the max knock to 15 degrees...

Thats what I do.. Leave enough on the table to catch it if it does knock but remove the possilbity of the knock sensor cutting the cars throat if it gets tripped up too bad.

From my experience on earlier cars the knock sensor does work and its not very often that its totally false knock. Don't believe me? Get a car thats reporting a couple degrees of timing.. zero out all the tables make a pull on the dyno then tune the knock out and see if there is a difference in power.

Just because you can't hear the car pinging inside the car doesn't mean that its not.. Nor does it mean that its not too much timing already.. You don't tune timing by putting it in until you hear it.
I did this too, it will now only pull a max of 5 or 6 * in the worst case... I might tune it out completly though once I get used to the noise of my new RR's, and how they "should" sound...

Re: Status of knock detection/retard on your LT1?

I am wondering if this could be my problem, had heads and cam put in, and all new valvetrain, didn't gain hardly any power. I have a autoxray handheld datalogger/scanner. it shows no knock retard, zero. could it be that my car is still seeing it, and that autoxray is not showing it? even when going wot it is not showing anything.. I have a madz28tune in there for now. Im not sure if he turned it off or what? but I am just trying to figure out my power loss.
