It's almost done... It is not on the car yet (mine) as i haven't got it yet.

But i'll let Bret chime in on anything more than that.

I've been watching this project progress the last few weeks. IMO, it's really looking good (as well as functional). I'm thinking about the same thing for my Impala SS, but I haven't asked Bret yet...well, maybe I just did.

Let's see, it's going to be the color of the liquor Hypnotiq isn't it, Ken?

Nice... If he sent it to my looking like that i'd probably make it a centerpiece with some nice lilakes coming out of the monoblade opening.

And i've already had requests to have this thread moved. So on it's way it goes to LT1 Tech...

Screw the intake, I'll take that Hypnotiq cognac/vodka stuff! Looks good.

Oh, yeah... can't wait to see the intake either.

And those are lilacs Ken, although your frog might like a lilly better.

Blah I gave up on proper spelling a while ago

Well hopefully Bret can get that little puppy finished soon and have a nice completed picture to put up on the net for people to see.

To start, think longer runners.

And then you can continue the Cz28.com trend of posting cool pics and then selling before you use it .

I have done my buying/selling duties...time to break the habit and start playing .

Thumbs up

No, let's be optimistic on this one.

I'm really looking forward to the outcome!

Such is almost always a good thing, given the extremely short LT1/4 runners.

Well I am making the fule rail brackets today, just came up with the design. OldSStroker has been helping out with some of the things on it.

I have a few little external things to do on the intake and some blending work on the plenum and it's almost done. It's a lot more labor intensive than I planned but from the feed back I have gotten so far on the rought version of it it's looking good.

I'm not going to let any pics out of it until I have it completed. Then Ken will get his and he can get his tuning done so we should know some results. The next one is already in the shop but I have some things to get done before that one goes on anything. It's going to end up on a higher port head al la LT4/AFR and a 383 for testing later on. We will have the head/cam stock bottom results from Ken's setup before I have anything on the 383 setup.

Are the stock intakes restrictive?

There nothing there, so I didn't know if anyone had done any testing on them.

On my desktop dyno, there is a world of difference between the single plain intake and the tuned port intake, so I didn't know which category our intake belonged in.

Tuned port sucked by the way.

Moss,

The LT1 intake lacks in what is called intake pulse tuning in the RPM range we run them in. Intake pusle tuning is basically physics at work making fake boost at certain RPM and cramming more air/fuel into the cylinder therefore making more power. You can see up to 5-7psi extra so in essence it's like a blower. If you ever wonder why a 500cu in Pro Stock motor makes 1350hp on gas and carbs with no extra help it's because they make very good use of this "faux boost". In fact F1, MotoGP, NASCAR motors which all have very high Volumetric Efficiency use this intake pulse tuining to their advantage. For a definition of Vol Eff go here http://www.auto-ware.com/combust_bytes/eng_sci.htm

Here is some more stuff on VE http://www.epi-eng.com/ET-VolEff.htm

A quote from that is what we are tring to shoot for here:
"For contemporary naturally-aspirated, two-valve-per-cylinder, pushrod engine technology, a VE over 95% is excellent, and 100% is achievable, but quite difficult. Only the best of the best can exceed 110%, and that is by means of extremely specialized development of the complex system comprised of the intake passages, combustion chambers, exhaust passages and valve system components."

This is how a Nextel Cup motor with 358cubes and a flat tappet cam can make more TQ than most 383 LT1's. 540ft lbs and they are tring to build HP with those motors. On top of that they are restricted to certain intake sizes due to rules on the intake manifold castings they can use.
