Just happy to finally have some time. Now I can answer your questions Bret.

SB2 dual plenum, dual TB... did you connect the two halves at all? A lot like the Viper Intake. Understandable why you did the dual plenum, it helps the low RPM TQ correct?
Correct. The goal here being to capitalize on low speed resonance and increase low-mid range drivability. This system employs two valved secondary pipes of different diameters. With this configuration, the volumetric efficiency curve is easily manipulated by opening/closing these pipes. Due to out of phase conditions present in a two-plenum configuration, the point of confluence of the two pipes acts as a pressure node, changing the effective pipe length as needed. Works very well when properly designed. There are more elegant ways to design a system than this, but time is money.

How about the fact of running a non carb style setup with those heads, I presume your intake has the TB's in the front so does this cause any problems or do you tilt the runners to work with the ports, or are the ports done in a way which works with the intake rather than a single plane.
The port entries are biased yes. And you're correct in your assumption, the throttle bodies are out front. The intake runner is designed to flow in character with this particular SB2 cylinder head. I wouldn't do it any other way.

What do you think about using fiberglass cloth like CF? OldSStroker built a nice soap box car for me in 89' out of wood and glass cloth like a wood strip canoe, it's one pretty car. I would think that glass would work just as well with epoxy as the bonding agent, but is it strong enough? I'm not as worried about wieght as I am about thermal conductivity and ease of manufacture (for 8 runners)
There are so many grades of fiberglass materials on the market that I am at a loss to comprehend them all Bret. I know there are some high temperature grades that may work very well but I don't know specifics off the top of my head. I think a high-temp fiberglass model is plenty feasible though.

What are you using for design software?

Bless your old man, he is probably still itching from the soap box car project.

I wish I could have a 5 axis in the shop for just that. I saw a Wilson 4.6 Mod intake a while ago with the runners done like this and thought that was a awesome idea. Each runner was one piece with the outside and inside profiled by CNC, I should have taken a picture of that. Another plus is that you could have the runners removeable to test different port designs

Bret
I actually prefer the two-piece runner configuration. Although I know of a few designers machining single piece, I prefer not to. I catalog quite a number of port configuration "masters". For the most part, I can fit just about any design parameter with one of these. Often times, we will simply make modifications to a master and digitize that new model for the prototype. The process is not as labor intensive as you might think thanks to advances in CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping.

Take care

Chuck,

Thanks for the answers. Your intake would be something I would like to see one of these days. Probably could spend a month at PRED looking in the corners and asking questions. I still want to make a LS1 style intake, probably not a IR runner setup going into a airbox since i'd rather not work out all the linkages, just stick with one TB (or maybe two). I was thinking a glass cloth and epoxy resin style setup keeping in mind the environment that it will have to work in. Mostly as a cost measure since CF cloth is not so cheap.

Anyways, for the intake. Working on the fuel system setup now. I want the lines to work with the car and fit in and around the rest of the parts. More fun work for after the holiday!

Cool

How about just a little pic of the TB to carb flange transition?
