Solid Roller setup, Suggestons wanted

Ive got a 96 Z, Forged 383 bottom end, TEA stage 2 ported heads, and will be a 3speed of some sorts auto before next year. Right now Im running a 236/248 .580 lift on a 114 LSA. Planning on spraying the car But never got to this year. Im thinking hard on a solid roller set up this winter. What is the best way to go. Im pretty much decided on a custom grind but whos the best, also What lifters to go with. Im also going with guidplates and get away from the self aligning rocker. Anysuggestions are appreciated. Im new to the solid roller setups. Planning on spraying the carup to a 300 shot with a foggger setup. Thanks fellas

Streetcar, drag car or both?

Contact Bret Bauer on a cam(SStroker on here)

Comp and Crower both have lifters that oil the roller internally. I would look into those. I think Isky has a Red Zone lifter that is the same.

Another vote for Cam Motion and whatever you do do not skimp on the lifters. Choose lifters that have oiling provisions for the roller bearing.

I have a Cam Motion roller in mine. 263/270 .686"/.674", 112lsa.

I'm using comp 888 lifters, and a set of custom Manton PR's. I hear there are better lifters out there for a street motor but for a race motor the comps are fine.

My only real suggestion for you is that with a big shot like that you are probably not going to be running a small cam. Probably a decent size like mine and .650 lift. Your going to probably want more lift and more lift means more spring. You should think about just going with a shaft rocker system and 3/8" pushrods. You will probably have to upgrade your springs on those heads also...

If you already have a set of s/a rockers just sell them and add in what you would spend in a new nsa set up and you will be well into the ballpark for a decent shaft mount setup.

taller lifters are needed too.

Also keep in mind for the LT1 block you'll need to make sure your mechanical roller lifters are tall.
Something like this Crane:

Consider taller valves when you do this solid roller cam. A .100" taller valve is going to give you a whole lot of valve spring choice. Also the shaft rockers will fit better with taller valves.

I get my lifters from Ai. They have a line of Morel solid roller lifters (and also hydraulic). These Morel lifters will really need to be cleaned prior to installation, (unlike stock lifters) due to the packing grease.

Street minded solid roller cams are fun. I ran a Crane street solid roller in my 383LT1 for a few years and loved it. (Now I have a race lobe grind). With the proper valve springs and valvetrain set up a solid roller cammed motor will rev to the moon and it will feel good doing it.

Opinions are like you know what, everyone has one. Here is mine - there is no reason to use a SR for a street car. Anything with a ramp with too much acceleration for a proper HR setup will be so hard on the rest of the valvetrain as to make it poorly suited for the street.

Just MHO, yours may vary and I respect that.

I agree with that, But like I said the car is pretty much a track only car. It may get a couple hundred miles on it in a summer.
