SLP Take-out Posi Install?

I'll be installing an SLP takeout posi (from '99+ f-bodies) into a friends LT1 4th gen. His car has the stock auburn (?). Any tips/tricks to installing this posi? I've heard that the only thing that really needs to be done is to check the backlash. Is this right? How do we go about doing this for this particular case?

just put one in last weekend!!

I also installed Richmond 4.10 gears.

If you are using the same gears the backlash will probly be out.
mine was at .007 stock and .016 after (with new gears).
If it is out try and use original shims (one piece) not a build up of different sizes. Luckly a mechanic I know had a box of them to chose from. Thanks Al. Use synthetic 75w90 gear lube and limited slip additive and go have fun.

Good luck

stock gears, have install kit too which I think comes with extra shims, new pinion seal, and some other stuff. How do you check backlash?

I don't like synthetic gear oil. It's too slippery. Use dino juice for your "rear end".

Backlash is not the only thing to check for. You also need to check your wear pattern. Have you ever setup a rearend before? Good luck, take your time and have fun.

Brent Franker's website has a good gear install guide that will tell you what you need to know. Mike
