should i skip the "small gain" bolt-ons and just save for heads?

Norwalk is on my list to race at this year. Its only been Dragway 42 and Quaker City Raceway for me. I've only been to the strip twice, but I race alot. I plan on going with my Akron buddies alot this year since in a month I'll be able to compete better.
I figured you went or lived in Kent.

I've never done good at Norwalk, therefore, I don't like racing there.

That surprised me that you have not done well at Norwalk (if you mean disappointing times). I run a couple tenths quicker up there than I do at National Trail Raceway. And for bracket racing...it seems Norwalk is my lucky track because I always go far there and have even won a trophy in the few times I was there. Would have got another trophy the last time if my transmission wouldn't have locked itself into 3rd gear (i ran a 19sec pass on that run!) If that place was not 2.5 hours away from me, I would be there every week.

I think either way you go you will be ok as long as you get bolt ons that will correspond with your head/cam kit. I mean LT's and exhaust are a must, RR's, and underdrive pulleys would be ok.
I am keeping my motor as stock as I can and going to do a full suspension with rear end and maybe even shoot it with some spray again and see how fast I can run with that. Then when its time for a motor build, I'll already have the suspension to back it up.

I had Lloyd Elliot do a set of heads for me reusing stock valves and I provided the springs. He did the port work and assembled them for 600$. I picked up some serious power with a stock cam. I say do the heads!
