SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
I recently scanned my PCM since I had a SES light on.
I got 3 codes:
26 Evaporative Purge Control Solenoid Circuit
63 Right Bank Heated O2 Sensor Circuit
77 Cooling Fan Relay Control Circuit
Now I have the Haynes Manual with the probable causes for each.
26 EVAP purge control solenoid circuit is fault. Check wiring harness
63 Check wiring and connections from the O2 sensor to the ECM/PCM. Open Circuit indicated
77 Check the cooling fan relay control circuit and relays for possbile short to ground or open circuit the wiring.
Now I know how to do 63, (might need new O2's), but 26 and 77, how do I check these items? Just make sure they are plugged correctly? If they are and I still get the SES what do I do then?
Also where can I find correct readings of instruments, like voltage levels and such when using Freescan? All these read outs are great but it would help to know what they meant
MODS in sig.
Thank you.

Re: SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
The EEC circuit will not "complete" if the wiring is bad, or if the solenoid is burned out. You need to check both.
Same with the O2 sensor.... could be faulty wiring to the sensor, could be a faulty sensor. Swap the left and right sensors. If the problem stays on Bank 2, its a wiring problem, if the problem follows the sensor to Bank 1, its a sensor problem.
Check Shoebox on the cooling fan relays..... he's best on that one.
As far as "readings of instruments, like voltage levels ".... I assume you are asking for the typical values of the sensor outputs, and calculated PCM parameters, since none of the dash instruments are read by the PCM. Try my online scanner writeup:

Re: SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
Thank you very much Injuneer, I appriciate your help immensely. I'll have to contact shoebox about the fans. Thanks also for the link, I knew one existed but it seems I only can find things when I dont need them.
O2 sensors should be done in pairs right? Should I stick with AC Delco ones too? I have heard other brands being faulty sometimes.
What does the EVAP do? Everything is clipped in good, so it must be the solenoid? Just replace if thats the case correct?
Thanks again

Re: SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
Did the O2 sensor switch and it was the sensor, the Code moved to the left side. And the EVAP, well I checked as much wiring as I could and I think its the solenoid. Fans are still questionable, but I have manual control so I'm not real worried about it. My big issue is the massive amounts of oil I have leaking over the engine and tranny, I think its time for an intake manifold seal replacement. Any way to check if its that or the rear main? Thanks again fella's.

Re: SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
Its the manual fan control that is causing the code to be set - common problem. There is a way to eliminate the code, using a diode. Again, check with Shoebox - I think he has the info on his website.
Re: SES Codes (26/63/77) and Freescan
I figured that about the fan switch. But again I am not worried about that one. I just want the SES light off. I am ordering the EVAP solenoid and O2 sensors now. Thanks again.
