Thumbs up Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

For the stock LT1 piston, (with the four(4) valve reliefs cut into it), a good number to use for piston head volume on these calculators is 7.0 cubic centimeters.

Oh yeah, and before I forget, I've been running the Mr. Gasket 5716 head gaskets on my set up, (see signiture), for about two(2) years now with NO problems whatsoever.

Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

quick question. When I get my heads soon (used) should I get them shaved down a bit with a thinner gasket for added compression? How much hp would that really make? Would the added compression need to be mentioned when I get my new tune?

Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

You're not talking about a massive increase in compression.
But it's good for 5hp or so across the board
There's a calculator and some formulas floating around here somewhere.

I think we calculated mine to be 11.1:1 or so running LE2s with .026 gaskets.
Yours may be different depending on how they were ported.

I would probably mention the higher compression ratio (or at least the thinner
gaskets porting and milling) to the person doing your tune. Having accurate flowbench
numbers may help as well. (I'm sure someone else here who knows more about tuning can help you out)

Dude, you sure about that stroke? That could be messin ya up real bad if you got a stock engine with a 3.5 stroke in there.

Re: Recommendations on a head gasket.

engineermike has had good experience with the Fel Pro 1074's and thats what I plan to run on my D1SC 383. Can't go wrong with those from what I have seen.
